I also have serious doubts that this exists. I was heavy into the Fish at that time, and I think I would think I would have heard about this at the time. I can find no mention of a version longer than 30 sec on the internet at all except this thread.

For those that say they have heard it, how long was it? What else was in the song? I just don’t see what else this song could have added to it.

I don’t understand how I never heard of this before….The only thing I ever heard (or can find out about online) is the 30 sec version. Where did the longer one come from?

There is a version longer than 30 sec? That is the only one I have ever heard.

I realize they are only a dollar each. I already have about $35 into this album already, and I have bought all of them except these new 14. I don’t feel like dropping an additional $14 bucks. That is why I asked. I am sure there a lot of people here in the same position I am.

Anyone want to share the new songs?

I really want to buy the other tracks, but I can’t drop ANOTHER 14 on these. I really wish they had just done this from the beginning. Put the normal one out on CD, and the Super-Duper Deluxe version with all 78 digitally.

Listen, I read my posts after and feel like I come off like I don't like the band or what they do. That is the problem, I really like this band, and I just see changes that I feel set them back instead of forward. They should be absolutely blowing us away now; they are a great group of musicians. I think they just need a little channeling in the right direction.

I look at the crazy cover songs they have done (Take on Me, Nothing Like a Dame, Kiss Me Deadly, Love Boat, Unity, Rock it With I, etc) and then I listen to FFF, some of them are so simple and plain, it seems like the effort just wasn't there. (I do really like the Poison covers; Brown Eyed Girl is one of my least favorite songs ever by Reel Big Fish)

Anyway, I'm sure that the new album will be OK, but I want it to be great. I hope they have been working hard and that is why the cover and greatest hits album have been coming out; to give them more time to work on new material.

      [quote1279848754=Desensitized]
[quote1234294229=The Wind]"That song you wrote, Please Don't Tell Her I Have A Girlfriend? Don't even bother recording it. But that other one, Bang! The Mouse Explodes? That belongs on the album."

See how much better Monkeys would have been already?
[/quote1234294229]And a good Producer would have done just that. RBF needs more songs like Bang, and less songs like Girlfriend.

RBF is quickly becoming the Nickleback of ska. All their songs sound alike, with no variation in tempo, generic topics, and then there's Aaron Kroeger.

You know what the difference is? Aaron Barrett has TALENT. He's settling for a lot less than he's capable of because no one is fucking TELLING him he's wasting it.

It's almost a fucking FACT that Monkeys was a disappointment. Outside of the redone songs, you couldn't find me a single RBF fan who thinks it's their best album. Because it's generally agreed upon that the songs are NOT well written outside of about 2 of them.

THIS is what we're worried about. We don't think "Aaron needs a producer because he sucks lol", we're thinking that he needs someone to tell him to not make generic crap, because from what we have seen since Cheer Up, HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT FOR HIMSELF.

And what has changed the most since Cheer Up? The fact that there has been NO person to tell Aaron Barrett that his songs need work. Nothing else is different.

I think some of you are TRYING to not see the other side of the argument on purpose.

EDIT: By the way, can someone send me Bang The Mouse Explodes? I lost it when I switched computers.
      [/quote1279848754]

This is dead on. I was reading through this thread and saw this post, and I couldn't agree more. Aaron can still have full control, but he needs someone else there to say, "try this, or adjust that, or retry that part and see if something else works." EVERY band needs that. The guy who writes/composes the songs, sings, and plays guitar should not be the only one producing. I don't care how much you worship the guy, this is just how it is. For any band, in my opinion.

I read all the reviews of 'A best of us', and I can't believe I am listening to the same CD as some of you guys. Maybe I am too old, and the old versions just sound 'right' to me, but some of the problems in these songs are too big for me to overlook. The vocals have serious issues, and to me, the horns just sound dead on a few of the songs. The guitar is really loud on a few songs, and completely overpowers everything else. This in itself is a reason for someone else to co-produce.

I think that WDTRSH is the best RBF CD/Sound/Songs that they have ever done. I like the mix of rock/reggae/ska, and the sound is good on that album. It is full, it is rich, and if there are mistakes, they sound like they were done purposely. The new album is seriously painful at times to listen to. I don't know how I am in the minority on this. Are they all bad? Absolutely not. But it seems that every release just gets further and further away from what makes this band great. And they are great. They just need a little kick, and a little assistance.

After I read Sonic's review, I started second-guessing myself, and listened to the whole thing again. I still stand by the statement that I don't think any of them are better than the originals, but a few of them are pretty good. The vocals still bug me on a few of the songs. They either sound uninterested, too over the top, or just not in key properly or something.

So I still would not give it a glowing review, but it is ok. Not great, but not awful.

Well, I went out and bought it at lunch. Listened to the whole thing, and I don't really know what to say. I like the originals better, but I expected that to be the case anyway. I didn't think any of the songs were improved. Some of the singing is off, or just not good, in my opinion. Some of the vocals are actually cringe-worthy. I don't know why that is, but Aaron can't hit notes like he used to, and someone in the band likes to do 'crazy' voice, which is fine sometimes, but not all the time, and it gets annoying.

Some songs sound ok, some sound like they can't really do it like they used to anymore, especially the horn section. The horns just sound flat, especially in the older songs. Maybe because they had more horns back then, or maybe because they were younger and had more youthful spirit, or maybe it is the production, I don't know. A few of the songs sound a little slower than normal too.

The 'Skacoustic' songs are not great, not terrible, just meh. I was hoping for more of an acoustic sound, but basically it is the band playing normally with an acoustic guitar. I was a little disappointed with that.

I guess my question would be why not just release the songs recorded live, as they sound like they almost could have been anyway. (I am not asking for another live album here, but I have heard them play some of these songs better live).

My final thought: I will hold on to my originals and never let go.

I saw the news about this Greatest Hits CD and had to come here and see what people, actual fans, were saying.

I have been a fan from the beginning, seen them countless times, bla bla bla…not gonna bore you with this crap…

I am glad I am not the only one that is losing interest with the Fish. Listen, I love these guys, and some of the recent stuff wasn't too bad, but I think it was the last covers album that really made me stop and say, "Are they just phoning it in at this point?" A couple of the songs are ok, but most are mediocre, and the one I hate the most is on the new Greatest Hits (Brown Eyed Girl, the worst, most generic, predictable, horrible RBF cover, ever). But the lack of new stuff is really sad, and they are about one more live/cover/split/live dvd/re-do album from me stopping caring at all.

I am looking forward to the re-recording aspect of the GH, but even then, I was more excited about a box set of complete re-recordings, not just "the hits", which is quite questionable in a few cases with this CD. And they better be changed a bit, or this whole thing was worthless. Some of the FFF cover songs were pretty uninspired in general, so it makes me worry about these re-recordings ending up lame and un-energetic too.

I really hope the next new CD is great, because it seems like even their hardcore audience is fading, and they may not have anyone left after that. I hate to see these guys go out like that. I know Aaron can still write a decent SKA song, (the FOE CD is proof that under good circumstances, the ideas are still there), so I am holding out to see what comes next.

And let someone else produce it. I don't mind how they sound really, but a little outside criticism never hurt anyone, and could really help them, I think.

Oh yeah, and is it just me, or are a lot of the new shirts in the store just ugly. I don't know if it is the new logo or what, but I go through them and think "Who would wear this hideous shit!". Bring back old-school standards – 'I Hate RBF', etc.

Rant complete. Thanks for listening guys.

That is what a lot of bands are doing now…Free website on MySpace. I hate it.

I miss a nice website with information, discographies, history, News, etc. MySpace sucks.

I finally wrote to CCNOW last week, and asked about the order. They just cancelled it without me asking them to.

Now people are getting it….2 days later. My luck sucks…
