johnMemberIt really is a sound so irresistable I want to hear it all. Can any of you fellow longtime RBF fans help me out? Half a decade ago I think I had the whole song on my old windows 95. But all I can find now is a 30 second clip from the commercial on youtube. I know they recorded an entire song, and I am the self proclaimed biggest Reel Big Fish fan in the state of SC, so I want it more than ever.
Oh yeah, I have the rarest song ever by The Hippos to trade if your into them when they were ska…its called “You Got Me” and I’m pretty sure I’m the only guy on the southeast coast with a copy of the full song.

BradleystpMemberThere is a version longer than 30 sec? That is the only one I have ever heard.

johnMemberPatience is a virtue.
Oh yeah, they did a full song. Been six or seven years since I heard it though. I’m dying to play it on my sound system.

BrianMemberWhoa, never knew a longer version existed. Can’t wait to hear this.

ReelBigCohenMemberSooooooo some bad news…. I can’t find it.

BradleystpMemberI don’t understand how I never heard of this before….The only thing I ever heard (or can find out about online) is the 30 sec version. Where did the longer one come from?
-

johnMemberNOOO, that sucks man. Theres got to be someone out there who has it.
The Fish released the full version online in 2004 for everyone to hear…now its disappeared.

AngryOpossumMemberI didn’t know about this either. Nobody’s ever mentioned it before.

The WindMemberI don’t think this exists.
FACT. -
November 7, 2012 at 9:12 pm #29161
BradleystpMemberI also have serious doubts that this exists. I was heavy into the Fish at that time, and I think I would think I would have heard about this at the time. I can find no mention of a version longer than 30 sec on the internet at all except this thread.
For those that say they have heard it, how long was it? What else was in the song? I just don’t see what else this song could have added to it.

johnMemberBack me up here Dan.
The ending was different than that in most of the commercials on youtube. There is ONE commercial on youtube, lower quality that has the ending of the song played in the background.
Its mostly a song about snap, crackle, and pop. Aaron wrote the entire song for a commercial. He sold out, and wrote a song for those guys. Thing is, the song is catchy as hell and sounds like a b-side from “Cheer Up” with the auto tuned greatness of Scott and Aarons voices. No ska, just catchy as hell punk…or pop punk.
The band, RBF, release the entire song in either 2004 or 2006 on myspace. I downloaded it back then but have since gone through multiple PC’s and lost the file. I am DYING to hear again.
I have “You Got Me” , the entire 2:42 second song by “The Hippos”. It was the last ska song the hippos wrote. It sounds like a ska b side from “Heads are Gonna Roll” CD. The only version of that song available is the opening from the old Eddy Mcdowld Show trailer on youtube. Some show about a mean kid turned into a dog , and now has to do right to get turned back into a human. Its a sweet song, and I ended up getting to talk a member of “The Hippos” to get it!

The WindMemberIt is true that when bands are commissioned to write and record a song for a television intro/commercial/whatever it may be, the band will write a full song, even knowing that the entire thing won’t be featured for what it was made for.
I just don’t think this was ever released publicly. Many of us here have been deep into the online RBF community, I know myself for about 10 years now, and none of us have heard this track.

The WindMemberI’d love to be proven wrong, though.

kettner3000MemberAt one point I had every RBF track ever, and I’ve never heard a longer version than the 30 second one. I could have missed it, but if it exists, it’s in the rarities thread. I mean, I’ve heard never released voicemail recordings the band was going to sell to the public… So I don’t think this exists. Also, I don’t know why they’d release a full version of a jingle they probably didn’t give a shit about.

AngryOpossumMemberVoicemail recordings? WTF are you talking about now?

November 29, 2012 at 10:50 pm #29174
kettner3000MemberVoicemail recordings. They were going to make them available for purchase on their site like five years ago. Aaron and Scott recorded ones by themselves and one together. It was pretty much them saying “Hey it’s _____ from Reel Big Fish! Leave a message for the cool dude you were trying to reach at the beep!” Pretty unremarkable, but superfans would’ve bought them… Probably.

MemberOk, for those of you that heard everything ever. Help me out here. During the promotion to WDTRSH MOJO had a RBF page with some promo tracks from the album (The Setup and another song). This version of The Setup had an alternate intro instead of the longer tag at the beginning. Has anyone else heard this? Was it the radio promo? I have never heard it since and I seem to remember it being kind of cool.

AngryOpossumMemberThe first thing you made me think of is a cassette sampler from 1998. I have not heard it, but it likely would have the same thing you’re referring to. Now, I’m going to guess that if there is a second version of “The Set Up,” then its probably just an early mix. However, you may be remembering wrong… I mean, it has been nearly 15 years since you heard it, right?
Anyway, I’m the author of the rarities thread on here, and I can tell you that its not included over there. I’ve never heard anyone mention this supposed version until now, and I don’t think its real. The old RBF site has an exhaustive and extensive discography page that details the differences between each version of each release… It makes no mention of this other version…
http://web.archive.org/web/20020607085642/http://reel-big-fish.com/discography.html#18
Of course, there could have been a different version on the internet, but if there was, then its long, long gone.

The WindMemberI’ve heard a The Set Up with a different intro. It was 11 years ago, I downloaded it from Kazaa or some shit. I just assumed, at the time, that it was some bogus fan intro. I can describe it as… it’s tricky to describe, and my memory might be off, but “clanky ambience”. It was stupid and not worth hearing.

MemberYeah, it was some weird intro that had a bass line just kind of doing stuff that built up to the awesome rock and roll part. I never heard it anywhere other than the “Liquid Media Player” that was on the MOJO RBF page back then.

AngryOpossumMemberI just found a weird … demo(?) of the song. Maybe this is what you’re thinking of?
Normal version: http://www.angelfire.com/freak3/1234/RBF-Snap_Crackle_Pop.mp3
Demo(?) version: http://www.angelfire.com/freak3/1234/RBF-Snap_Crackle_Pop2.mp3 -

AngryOpossumMemberIf that is a demo, then I doubt there’s a longer version. Also, why the shit can’t we edit previous posts anymore?
Also… those links don’t work. But if you go to http://www.angelfire.com/sk3/reelbigfishrare/ then they are in the “S” section. The normal one is listed with “Rice Krispies Commercial” in parenthesis.

AngryOpossumMemberOkay, now I’m convinced that this is what you guys were talking about. I went and looked at the Rice Krispies website through the Way-Back machine and figured out that a few things. Kellogs was holding a contest for children to send in tapes of themselves performing “the Kellog’s ™ Rice Krispies ™ jingle, ‘Who We Are.'” The earliest page with this is from July 2003. So, the song is from 2003, not 2004. The MP3 of the demo (available on the aforementioned Angelfire site) has the year marked as 2002, and the album as reel-big-fish.com. So, my conclusion is that the demo was recorded in 2002, the commercials aired throughout 2003, and then RBF had put both versions on the old forums by 2004.
That has to be close to the truth, at least.

johnMemberThey posted the ENTIRE song back on their Myspace page in 2004-2006-ish. It was awesome. Their was TWO separate versus to go along with the Chorus, which changed at the end of the song just a bit…an awesome bit. The song was 2:45 minutes long, no longer than three minutes.
This exists; I don’t know why it can’t be found (maybe Rice Krispies won’t let the song out, much like “You Got Me” by The Hippos…another sweet ska/rock song that took me YEARS to finally find, but I found it six years back by talking to their lead singer on myspace)
I ask Reel Big Fish, or anyone to please post this whole song.
It exists. The whole song was written. And performed by the best RBF.
I yearn to hear it again. There is one clip on youtube that has a few of the extra lyrics, basically proving their is more to this song than a 30 second clip…because the 30 second clip we have today on youtube does NOT have these lyrics in it…

jrock241MemberPost the link to the Youtube version that has the few extra lyrics. Have you tried contacting the band? It’s something they could confirm pretty easily.
