jrock241MemberI understand people not being excited to see non-original members playing RBF’s catalog of songs, but if RBF kept releasing new albums it would be the actual members playing. It’s been 5 years since the last album, the most years without a full album. Johnny’s instagram shows them recording hornlines, new music would make the concerts more exciting again.
But I hope the photos of them recording aren’t just for the new Goldfinger album. Considering that Matt and Billy performed with Goldfinger with Travis Barker on drums a few days ago. It looks like Goldfinger still puts on a great show.

A new album would be great! I really liked Ed’s drumming on the last Suburban Legends album. I hope he bring the same feel to RBF’s new music.

jrock241MemberI liked War On The Palaces better than Fancafrique, but the horns sound good no matter what. As for why they used Dan instead of Billy; I think Billy is from the east coast so maybe it’s easier to get Dan. Plus maybe they know him personally, or possibly because Dan has writer’s credit on some of the more interesting RBF songs.

jrock241MemberHere’s the coolest old skool Reel Big Fish video I’ve seen. These concerts were probably in 1996, maybe even earlier considering that Aaron mentioned just turning 21. Robert Quimby and Adam Polakoff perform at some shows. Many songs are performed like the Everything Sucks album version.

jrock241MemberSo is Ed the official drummer now? On rbf’s streamed concert yesterday [yahoo screens] Aaron introduced Ed as the drummer of the Suburban Legends, rather than “former” drummer of SL. I really like Ed’s style, a bit looser than ryland’s. I think he’s a great choice, hopefully he is in the band.

jrock241MemberWow, they talked about a Christmas album a few months ago, and numerous times over the past two decades, but it’s finally happening.

jrock241MemberThe post about playing shows is probably related to the contracts they sign with concert promoters. For example: When a famous band plays a show they are (most the time) contractually prohibited from playing with a certain amount of miles of the venue (usually 50 miles in the midwest) within 30 (or even up to 90) days. The way around this is to find venues outside of those areas, or play private shows – as they do not encroach on the promoters profits. Most colleges fall beyond the distance, and some are students-only, thus private.
It’s much cheaper to do this, than tour Europe while waiting for the contract term to expire.
As for Ryland, it could have been two mistakes that happened relatively close, if it was anything else we’ll never know because nobody on this board has any real connection to the band, like some old members used to. Honestly, Ryland probably makes more money on the other tours anyways.

jrock241MemberA few days before the tour started a friend of the drummer posted “Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the new drummer for reel big fish. ed larsen…its official..” I thought he was mistaken, but it did seem odd that Ryland backed out of the tour at the last second.

I found that post by following a comment posted here

Anyways, Ryland lasted longer than any other drummer. Ryland’s music is really good imo. I hope he does well on his own. I hope this new drummer brings a fresh approach. I’ve always enjoyed Andrew’s drumming the most but the ever changing drum position has been interesting and I hope it continues.

jrock241MemberI thought the guy was going to punch somebody in the face at 1:25 instead he gets a shoe to his face. I checked out other performances of bands at the fest, the 90’s were awesome.
