MemberWe've been having a lot of little ones where me and Amy are, and that's supposed to alleviate the stress and impact the earthquakes can make. I call bullshit. Also, CA isn't built out of mud and cobblestones. Shit'll get bad, but not haggard bad.

Member^What he said. We had at least 20 little ones in one day last Saturday, which is a bit rare for 1 day.
The difference between California and the other places is, we know it will happen, we know shit will be fucked up, we know not to sleep naked and to keep slip on shoes right next to the bed at night. Most importantly, most of us here ( not all) know not to wait for government to come help us when shit does go down.
I'm as prepared as I could possibly be, so when FEMA comes down my dirt road, they can keep on moving past my house.

MemberChile knew it would happen, too. They have earthquakes pretty regularly. Actually one person reporting from there said she initially debated on whether to get out of bed or not and waited to see how bad it got first.
Though I still find it funny how Japan just shrugged off its 7.3.

I do the same. We have so many of them, I often wait to see if it's worth getting up and move somewhere safe. I give myself about 3-5 seconds to get my ass up and move, which doesn't seem like a long time, but 1 second feels like 3 seconds in an earthquake.
What was a bit baffling with Chile is, some people said when things started shaking, it was still pretty quiet. My experience is, I always here it coming about 2-3 seconds before the shaking starts. It's a very erie sound and vibration in the air which is a good enough warning for me.
We know California will be in bad shape when San Andreas wakes up. This has been imbedded in my head since elementary school. Nobody is fully prepared, but I think individuals here are as prepared about as much as we know how to. We don't have 8.8's everyday, but we've had some good ones.

MemberThe Hayward Fault will be the next one to go. Statistically it's had an eruption every 140 years on average, give or take 20 or so. I think it's been like 141 years since the last time it went off. Mostly it'll fuck up the east bay and just really shake up SF. My guess is Saturday May 12th, 2012.

[/quote1267641215]Well, Hayward runs parallel to the San Andreas, which is also very over due for some action. Because of the close proximity between the two faults, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if one fault set off the other. That would be some serious destruction here in Ca. and San Fransisco would be fucked because they're right on top of the epicenter.

the american girl i dated for a bit was way ignorant before she moved here. and now she doesnt really want to go back to living in america and is trying to get sponsership so she can become a resident here (this may be because our country is awesome though)

[/quote1268866490]It's the nightmare of Brave New World. Over-saturation in the media of everything that doesn't matter and things that do matter are so spun and re-interpreted that the honest truth of events is rarely told because a hyped or spun story will generate more interest and more ratings.
I want out of the country but a) I don't have the money to do it and b) I don't especially have any in's to make it into another country.
And in what ways was the girl in question ignorant? Just curious because I want to know if it's a sort of "untraveled, uncultured" ignorance or is it an ignorance of world affairs or is it an ignorance of the US's (and the corporations that run the US's) impact on those world affairs?

Memberi think the ignorance is mix of all that
but i think mainly it might because of your media.
like she is plenty cultured. and she does have ideas about the bad shit happening in the world (she was heavily involved with invisible children)
but she was suprised about the world's reaction to america and the general view that we have
like her moving here to work as a nanny was the first time she had ever been outside of america (infact, off the east coast of america)
there was general things too like she told me when flying over here she was looking out the window of the plane and saw the waves hitting the sure and seriously said "i heard the jelly fish were bad here". she thought it was a shitload of jellyfish

MemberI mean no offense when I say this…but on top of having the most deadly snakes and insects of any country; there is a reputation for racism and I really couldn't stand for that…even if it's the same level as here, I want less…not the same, you know? And if I'm wrong on that, I'm sorry….but it really doesn't help that your Olympic figure skaters basically did a routine inspired by and, on a couple performances: in, black face. My countries of choice right now are mid-Europe (like Belgium or the Netherlands) or Canada. And Canada gets the benefit because I feel like if I felt homesick, I could travel to the French parts and at least feel a little at home.

Memberyeh. and none of them live in sydney dude. i can honestly say i have never seen a wild snake in the suburbs
ive seen them in national parks. about it
like honestly. i dont think i've even seen the sydney funnel web spider around here
worst ive seen is a redback spider. and that was once at my old house when i was a kid
all those dangerous ones live more north and rural area
come to think about it. even when hiking out in the bush. ive never seen a venomous spider or snake
ive seen them at the zoo 🙂
like would you expect to see a dangerous snake or spider in the middle of new orleans?

[/quote1269228631]Depends on where. There's easily areas where gators and snapping turtles (apparently called alligator snapping turtles elsewhere) get beyond their wild area and into more civilized areas (like back yards). Not much for dangerous snakes. The most dangerous spider I can think of around here is the brown recluse. And then there's nutrias who aren't really that much of a threat at all other than being large-ish rats.

Memberok, lets see
if you go to the beach. you be careful in rock pools
you dont leave your shoes outside for spiders to climb into
snakes will leave you alone if you dont go pester them.
the tasmanian tiger is extinct and its still alive. its in tasmania! an island state off the south of australia
we also have platypus. you love them. too bad ive never seen a wild one….
oh yes, kangaroos arent everywhere
we dont all wear khakis and wrestle crocodiles
crocodiles are north
i guess when i look at america (well use to). it consists of weak beer and a terrible crime rate. like do you need to be cautious everywhere you walk incase you get mugged?
atleast here when you go camping you dont need to make sure your toothpaste lid is on because it attracts bears! (take note, leaving your garbage outside your tent may attract deers though…)

MemberLol what?
Although the US economy does affect Canada (there aren't many places it doesn't affect in the western world), 13th Fed Res District's a bit strong – they do have their own central bank and currency after all.
The Queen is just someone who appears on TV each Christmas and gets played in movies. She has no actual power anymore, or at least she'll never use it.
The Vatican only affects the Catholic world – a protestant country is only marginally affected by anything that happens there.
Relax, until the Elders of Zion and the Illuminati learn to cooperate we'll all be fine. -

[/quote1270230879]Why does the queen still exist as the queen? I'm really surprised England hasn't just dissolved the monarchy already and cut off their trust fund. It's not like as if they contribute to society in any manner that the people who have legitimately earned billions of dollars aren't already contributing and those people have, at least, somewhat worked for their money.
The Vatican holds quite a bit of power. Enough to get away with fucking little boys and covering it up with the consent of various heads of the Vatican (this problem existed before pope hitler came into power).
