brand new song kicks the shit out of the setup.

      No it doesn't.

i'm gonna have to agree with reel big chris here. as much as i love the set up, brand new song is clearly better.

    • #4318

The Set Up, it's just crazy. But the whole album is great.

    • #4330

yes, the setup is good… but it's not ska. therefore, brand new song puts the setup's teeth on the curb.

    • #4360

haha this is kinda pointless cuz every single song on this album is my favorite. seriously they're all amazing but brand new song is just even better. and us 2 seem to be the only people that think so. haha

That's not logical. Songs that don't necessarily fit in the ska album can be, and often are, better than songs that do.

the only thing i'd change is that the dead air time is at the end of peter bones, and not at the beginning of the hidden track. aside from that very minor detail, white trash is a-fukcing-mazing.

I love Brand New Song and it has possibly the best intro of any song ever. You Don't know is a close 2nd. There's so many great songs on this album though, so it's hard to choose.

I love it. The build-up is masterful. It sounds unlike anything RBF has ever recorded, and makes me miss when RBF would try new things more often.

What about songs that aren't good. I love so many songs on this album. Maybe my favorite is Down in Flames, Thank You for Not Moshing, Brand New Song or something like that, but the only ones I don't like are Somebody Hates Me (I find that it's missing the now-essential trombone part they add live, still a great song), and I'm Cool. It bores me. I used to dislike Song #3 and Peter Bones, but now I love them because I "get" them.

And it wears me out when I hear Take on Me now because I've become so desensitized to that song. And apparently Everything is Cool is underrated, even though it succeeds where Skatanic failed: being a good creepy/scary song while still being fun.

Not at all like Everything is Cool. That song just has a juxtaposing verse/chorus structure, though it isn't a bad song.
Peter Bones has dynamics and feeling. It's got heart. I can't quite put it into words.

No, it really is a bad song. There's like nothing to it at all. The fucking Voodoo Glow Skulls or Flip The Switch could have wrote it.

I like what Everything is Cool does. Skatanic is just like GRAA I'M A STALKER. Everything is Cool is actually legitimately crazy, and I dig it a lot more.

I like both Peter Bones and Everything Is Cool because they're most musically risk takers considering what most fans come to expect from RBF. I like when they violate our expectations. I like it when they alienate fans because they're trying something a little different.

I don't see ANY risk taking in Everything Is Cool, like at all. It's a generic song I've heard from many other bands in the 90s where the gimmick of using LOUD and QUIET one after the other was some kind of novelty to them. By the time White Trash came out (and especially by the time I got the album), I was waaaay past listening to that boring stuff.

It also might have seemed more of a risk taker if Skatanic didn't already exist. I don't see how a song about a stalker is less original than a song about EVERYTHING IS COOL NO REALLY IT IS OKAY IT'S NOT REALLY. They're both pretty standard subjects.

Everything Is Cool is the first RBF song I've outright hated. I'm really glad that by Cheer Up they stopped making these kinds of songs. If EIC is any indication, they had nothing left.

It's total bipolarity. It's one part "Everything's great, we're fine," one part "I FUCKING HATE YOU GO FUCKING DIE RAAAAGHHHHHHHH"

I don't really hate ANY RBF songs. Well, before Monkeys, that is. Maybe Rock and Roll is Bitchin' or some other throwaway Cheer Up! tracks.
