      in 2037.

Not really, supposedly next year. But they "new" part is that it's part of a project called 99 Songs of Revolution.

Streetlight and BOTAR and a few other "Streetlight related bands" are planning on releasing two albums each, all cover songs, totaling 99 songs.

Let's start a pool: $100 says Streetlight's album gets delayed five years and the BOTAR albums never come out.

Streetlight is getting old. Kalnoky better step it up next go around.

You got the date wrong, it's 2012. I'm calling it.

I'm gonna be optimistic and go for a 2010 release, lightning won't strike twice.

I can expect to like From Such Great Heights. But that's a legitimately good song.

Haha I posted this topic in 2008, citing "next year".

I really wish we could have a BOTAR album of originals.

Fuck, those were annoying. 96 more covers like that? Pass.

99 songs of revolution was first mentioned back on BoTAR's EP. It's already been well over 5 years.

I thought it was pretty good, but then, I love Streetlight. I found the second half (starting with Punk Rock Girl) to be especially strong.

Say what you will about 99SOR: Vol 1, but there is one truth:

It sure beats the hell out of F,F,F.

      So does "Significant Other".

That's not that big of a feat.

Is Reel Big Fish even doing anything?

      Related to my last post:

From RBF's Twitter: "wonder if Streetlight Manifesto is getting as much shit for their new covers album as we got for ours…"

No, they're not. They're getting shit for it (they're Streetlight, they get shit for EXISTING), but at least theirs doesn't suck giant donkey ass like yours. Jeez.

Sometimes Aaron needs to get his head out of his post-label ass and get a breath of fresh, cynical air.

EDIT: Assuming Aaron is in charge of RBF's Twitter, which logic dictates he is. The tweet made on the RBF page in response to me totally had that Aaron-style humor. "@ReelBigFish Would you rather be famous or good?" "It's a good thing we're both!"

What?? I've never heard of such a thing. Maybe they get shit because they never finish a project within a deadline and they normally take more years than seems reasonable to finish off a CD but not just for existing.

Streetlight gets shit for the fact that a good chunk of their fans are some of the worst assholes you'll ever run into. They bring in a new level of elitism.

RBF gets shit because the songwriting has slipped. That's about all I can tell that's wrong with them.

Oh, yeah. I can't stand most of those kids but I don't hold that against the band.

Being off their deadlines is part of their existance, or at least Tomas Kalnoky's. The new BOTAR album was supposed to be out in 2002, along with Everything Went Numb. Keasbey Nights was stated for '05, and Somewhere in the Between for '06. Only recently have they been claiming that at least part of these delays are due to their record company.

But I mean, the dude's a perfectionist. I don't mind waiting if I like the result, but that's just me. It just seems that Streetlight's detractors can nitpick at every single thing about them.

I've never seen this – maybe I'm elite and don't know it? I don't think me, or any of my friends, are elitist assholes. 🙁

And I give RBF shit because both songwriting/recording AND live performance has slipped. I saw them last year. It was good, but not what I expected. The guitars sounded incredibly muddy, Aaron fucked up vocals (wasn't too bad and I didn't really mind, just pointing it out. The worst occurrence was at one point where he sang the wrong verse in Don't Start a Band), Dan was mixed way too loud above Johnny and Scott (this may not be their problem, but it may be the way Aaron likes it for some reason), and Aaron's voice was, honestly, awful. He just sang really bad.

…so basically, with guitar and vocals mostly being my problem, and songwriting being the apparent big problem for others, it seems like Aaron's the big problem with Reel Big Fish.

      …which is bad.

Well, I don't hate Streetlight at all. Their music has kind of wore off on me, but that's just my changing tastes. Their fans however… Well, it's not like ALL of them are assholes, but there is definitely a significant pocket of them out there. I'm not sure why certain bands have this problem, but it's not like they can help it.

I still question why they signed to Victory in the first place.

As for RBF, I haven't seen them live in a long time so I don't know how well they're still doing. They simply haven't come around here.

I've frequently said that if Reel Big Fish's next release isn't good, I may give up on them. I mean, the last time they put out something good was the live album in 2006. Since then we've gotten an album on which the re-recorded songs were better than the originals, a cover album, a half-assed live DVD, and significantly worse live performance.

Oh, and a Twitter so that they can tease us with pictures of them recording drums and Trendy vocals.

Yeah. Nothing against Tomas. He's been nothing but cool whenever I've had the opportunity to meet him. But there are perfectionists who accomplish things in a quicker manner. At the same time, I could see that being the record company, though. So dunno. It's not my thing as much as it used to be but I still enjoy SM's stuff and still proud to have one of the original Streetlight stickers on my car. Last time I saw them was with RBF and LTJ and AAA and they were the best that night by far.

RBF was actually better the night I saw them on the F,F,F tour (which is saying a bit, considering my complaints about RBF's performance), they just weren't on top of things. Kalnoky was forgetting his lyrics left and right, one song became a complete trainwreck because of the horns not being on top of things, it was kind of embarrassing.

But then I saw them at their "farewell" show. 23 songs. Almost two hours. The place was packed. The best part was there was this kid with a mohawk that was really pissing me and my friends off (we couldn't see the band through his damn mohawk, and he was an asshole), and I almost got kicked out by security because I basically got into a fight with him (he pushed me first.) Anyway, during Failing, Flailing when they did their "stop playing and see who sings along anyway" bit, he was actually crowdsurfing and Kalnoky was basically like "Haha, I got you guys, you can do better than that. And you, kid, are awkwardly floating." He gave Kalnoky the finger, and he was just like, deadpan, "That is one genuinely angry kid."

THAT IS ON TOPIC BECAUSE THEY PLAYED AUDIO FROM 99SOR THAT NIGHT. HAHA.
