The WindMemberNo, dudes, here's how it is:
My position was camp director for a daycamp. For the past three weeks, I, along with six others have been preparing for the day camp; planning activities, booking people and places, administration, the usual stuff.
Yesterday, the new "manager" comes into our office. She firsts says that our office building is being condemned due to poor air quality.
She then goes on to day how there will be a lot of changes going on, and that what they've decided to do is revamp the entire day camp; so everyone working for it has to re-apply and get re-interviewed. So fired.
This also applied to the 20 staff that I interviewed and phoned up and told that they had a job. So I'm pretty sure this whole thing is illegal, with the whole firing without severance or grounds for dismissal or two weeks notice or pay cheque.
We then cleaned our stuff out of the condemned building and… left.Fun Facts:
– We had completed most of the planning
– I have been working at the day camp seasonally since summer '02
– I have been planning the day camp part time since January
– When the "manager" broke the news to us, she did it through a smile
– While I welcome a change in management (yeah, it is really needed), this couldn't have come at a worse time; a month ago or three months from now would have been ideal. But she seemed to think that the timing "couldn't be more perfect." -

AdminKeymasterI seriously doubt that she can do that to you guys. I'm not sure what your laws are over there, but I'd check into that if I were you.

Memberdunno what the laws are over there, but if you're just seasonal workers and aren't full time, i doubt there's much you can do.

Membershould probably check anyways because the hiring part might have broken some laws. might not be able to save your own job but might be able to help the people you hired?

The WindMemberChances are that if I want a job there, I'll probably get one, though with a demotion. Thing is, I don't know if I want to work there, but right now I don't have much of a choice.
