ReelBigCohenMemberI am very excited for the 99 Songs of Revolution, but on a sad note… I heard Mike Soprano is leaving the band to become a teacher

The WindMemberMost people are. You doubt the ignorance and blindness of Kalnoky fans.

MemberAfter seeing a few live videos etc, i'm not so bothered. And who knows when it'll come out, they've been promising it since before last summer.

The WindMember[link=http://www.streetlightmanifesto.com/]News on that.[/link]
Four recognizable covers and two "secret" ones. How the hell does this man turn songs that he didn't write into songs that sound like that one he wrote?
And here's a tip, T: it's a cover song, not a fucking guessing game.

MemberBecause they're not as great as ska fans say they are. And it's somewhat of a backlash.
Personally, after SITB I just got sick of every song following pretty much the same format over and over again. I came to the realization that Kalnoky's lyrics were embarrassingly cheesy, every song features boring songwriting that goes nowhere, and an assholish fanbase that is probably the worst in the genre. The problem is we didn't notice this when it came out because of the hype. "A ska band that will get the genre noticed, yeah!"
I used to wonder why the reviews weren't as kind to SM as the fanbase, but I slowly learned why, and it's because of all the above. The problem is that most of us didn't see it at the time, but now it's clear as day.
I have nothing against any of them, and they are fantastic musicians, but their material is so novelty that it's just plain lost any spark it once had. Kalnoky needs to take a poetry class or two, since his lyrics really need the work. He should also stop writing the same basic song structure over and over but slightly changing a horn line.
People like Keasbey Nights because it's a young band trying to stand out by putting their best foot forward and trying their best. Not a band trying to sound deep by writing convoluted lyrics and using musicianship to mask poor writing. Say what you will of the musicianship on Keasbey, but the songs are all entirely different and the band puts it's all into it. SM stuff sounds lifeless in comparison.
That's all IMO.

MemberYeah, the fans are really bad.
Worst RBF show I saw was the one with SM, since their fans liked to mosh during the ska parts and dance during the punk parts. Which was fantastically annoying, but since about every song had the same basic structure, I learned when to dodge ahead of time.
Thankfully most of the idiots seemed to leave by the time MxPx and RBF got on the stage as it wasn't anywhere near as bad. Though still not as good as other shows I've seen.

MemberMxPx and RBF were easily the highlights, yeah. Unlike RBF though, they played most of their best stuff.
Would have killed for Southbound as the closer, though.

MemberSO, we have a release date: http://www.victoryrecords.com/item/16155/0/Streetlight_Manifesto_99_Songs_Of_Revolution
March 16th 2010 volume one (I'm assuming?) will be available. And it's up for pre-order now on the Victory Records website.
I just find it really odd how the band website wasn't updated to announce the release date. -
