So last year, my rent got jacked up a few hundred bucks and it's almost that time that I'll get a notice to renew my lease…and they'll probably raise my rent again. Ever since there's been a new owner, they raised everybody's rent, and it forced a good 60 to 70 people to have to move. Now they can't get anybody to move back in because the price is insane.

I went onto Craigslist to start searching for a new place ( backup plan A) and I see my apartment complex on there, advertising ***REDUCED RENT***. They are offering the same size apartment that I have, about 50 bucks cheaper then what I'm paying now.

Question: If they try to raise my rent when my lease is up in April, do you think I should print out their advertisement and protest the rent increase….since they are advertising online for a cheaper price? Do you think they can even do that? C'mon peeps, what's your input?

You can totally do that. All you have to do is tell them you know about the lower price.

Just threaten to move out if they don't give you the same price. They're obviously desperate for tenants so they'll drop it without question.

Try finding a legal loophole, maybe. When your lease is up, be a "new" tenant. Just move apartments, but within the same building.

      It could work.

Apartments aren't very negotiable generally. They charge what they want and there is hardly any restrictions. (Your rental contract specifies they can raise your rent at anytime they choose.) Which is complete bullshit if ya ask me!

Anyways, what I would do, is yes, print out the ad, walk in there with extreme confidence and act like you WILL NOT leave that office until YOU get what YOU want. DON'T BE A RAGING BITCH THOUGH. Be delicate but forceful at the same time. Repeat yourself many times, calmly. Bitching get you NOTHING. 🙂

Threatening to move out and tell all of your friends that the place isn't worth it may help a lot. Especially if they are that hard up for people to move back in.

And hell, if ya really dont wanna move out, call their corporate office and plead your case. Tell em you've lived there and supplied them with rent, on time, every month, and you are really just not happy with the fact that they have increased your rent so many times in the past and you think it's unfair to be treated like this and that you will never refer a friend or anyone else positively about their location again. (unless you get what you want)

Kick and scream and nag nag nag! like most women do when they want something 🙂

      That should work.

If not, move out and find a better place to live. Cuz who wants to pay douchebags like that all your hard earned money?!

True, true. It's probably best that I just keep looking for somewhere else to live. I've lived here quite a while…I just don't do well with change. I get all sketchy and paranoid.

    • #9594

Plus, the first few nights, you hardly sleep because you hear all these new sounds goin on that make you even more paranoid! teehee

Well, when I first moved here, nobody informed me that the Sheriff's dept. had a shooting range across the street from my bedroom window. It was down this little hill so it was kinda hidden,… well, until you heard shots going off. I got used to it, so I no longer hit the floor and cover my head when I hear gunshots, no matter where I'm at. Bad habit I can't break, haha!

The shooting range has relocated, but has now been replaced with a new Fire Department facility…

    • #9598

And you still don't think twice when ya hear gunshots?!?! What kind of fire dept do y'all have?!?!? 😉

no no no, the shooting range moved away, and the fire department moved in and built a new building :p

Bottom line, I can think of a million reasons to move, but I'm afraid to 🙁

That's funny, considering you don't even know Amy! She can be one bad-ass chick when she wants to be. Don't get me wrong Amy, I love it!!! I wish I was more like that.

I agree that you need to make some noise about this though. Is your apartment owned by a management company or an individual? Management companies could be a little more reasonable. Just bring them the ad, present your case, and hope they have some sort of moral compass. I'd offer my extra bedroom, but I know you need more space than that! !lol

Haha, yeah I need a whole place. I'm just gonna move when the time comes. I found a few cool places in Corona for rent. My kids need a backyard they can run around in that is a little more rattlesnake/scorpion/turantula/bobcat free.

Oh, and I'm only a bitch when provoked 😀 The rage part I'd unleash when I was in boxing. It was probably the only time I could throw a left hook at a sheriff's deputy and not get arrested, haha!

You could also offer them sex.

      just a thought.

Everything could be solved with sex. Or violence. Either is good.

      Update:

Well, I am ( without a doubt) moving this summer. Ok now, I don't consider myself some tree hugging, fuckin' hippie but I love the trees around my apartment. It helps me forget that I live in a county that has well over 2 million people living in it. I got a notice that they are cutting down almost all the trees so they don't have to maintain them anymore….so my decision is officially made….I don't even want to be here anymore. Here WAS my apartment view 🙁

That's a fantastic view. I know what you mean, though. There used to be trees everywhere around here, now almost all of them except the one my family planted 10 years ago is gone.

You could a LOT of plants? But that rent situation sounds shit so it's probably for the best.

What's up with that? Aren't we supposed to be planting trees to save the environment or something?

Yeah, around here we're supposed to respect mother nature, treat our neighbours like family, and honor our ancestors.

We don't do that though, we lock up our elderly in poorly managed hospitals, and have more litter than Montreal (which is a whole city away), and constantly sue each other. All this without any white people around. We have our own lawyers, council, recycling facilities and graveyards.

If our ancestors could see the shit going on around here, they'd wretch. !amazed

If I ever get any damn money, I'm out.
