but i was chosen to participate in a casting call for the best buy holiday commercials. i filled out an application the other day and last night i got confirmation saying that they're flying me out to minneapolis for an on-camera audition. out of the 10,000 plys people who applied, they only chose 200 for the call-backs. so they fly me out there, pay for my hotel, give me per diem and $150 a day… no complaints. also, if i pass that stage, i fly to either new york or la(probably la, seeing as it's 1.5 hours from me) and film the final commercial. siiiiiiiiiiiiiiick.

so why i'm not jumping the gun: i rsvp'd and all that, i'm just witing for another email with my trip itinerary… then i'll be psyched.

ok, update: i haven't fully wrapped up the national gig. you SHOULD be seeing my ugly ass somewhere advertising for best buy. here's what happened. turns out i will be filming the spot in hollywood this week, but they're only choosing 6-9 out of the 25-ish people to actually make the national spot. the rest of us will be getting either an exclusive youtube spot, or best buy tv spot, or random ads on myspace or shit like that. so we'll see. but i am making about $1,600 in three days for just standing around and talking at a camera. bitchin'.

Well, MY Best Buy news:
I got the job, but it's shit: it doesn't start for another month and a half (new store) and it's 6 am shifts… for a week, and then the shifts change to 10 pm – 6 am until January.

so you're working media and you're doing over-nighters. people kill for those shifts, seriously.

so i went out to la, checked into my hotel, sat around naked and went to bad. i got up the next day for my 7am casting call and didn't get picked up by the studio till 730. so i get there and get rushed into hair/makeup/wardrobe and then rushed into the studio. so i'm waiting on deck and i find out the director is an oscar winning director (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Errol_Morris) and is kinda a big deal. so i go through and film my shit… it's pretty much just 45 minutes of the guy talking to me. at the end of it, he asks his team if they have a fisheye lens, and the answer is yes: see, i told a story about a customer involving a fisheye lens, so he threw it on the camera, got me an slr and had me pretend to take pictures and smile while filming me through the fisheye. pretty cool, all in all.

after wrapping the filming, i was talking to the director and he congratulated me on doing a good job. the camera was covered by a video screen of the directors face, and instead of their being a teleprompter, all my cues came just from the director's facial expressions. if he wanted me to move my hands or smile, he'd make a subtle movement indicating to me to do that. laso, he'd hint at stuff he'd want me to say and he said i did that perfectly while other people didn't get the hint or just wouldn't do it. so i feel pretty damn good about this whole thing.

so now i have to wait two to three weeks till i know if i got the spot. so out of the 25-something people who filmed, only six to nine people will get a national spot. also, one of the producers said for me not to be surprised if i don't get a call and i just see myself on tv. after all, they've got my footage, they've got the address to send my checks to, so why waste time with calling me, right?

I've been applying for waitressing jobs the last week. I need a second job to pay off my debts and I have about 10 years waitressing experience at fine dining restaurants. I'm kind of upset that with all my experience, everywhere I've applied so far says I still have to start with lunches, which I can't because I'm teaching! The worst part is that all the managers have said they would love to hire me with my experience, but they have policies! PISSED!!! Anyway, congrats Chris! !lol

and the graveyard is nice because you're not dealing with customers, it's really laid back, and you're guaranteed a lot of hours, which is a good thing.
