The WindMemberI've been living here since September. It's a nice place, decent rent, very nice area.
Throughout the year, there have been several mishaps with contract and renter's rights breaching. She'd show up unannounced. She'd turn the temperature to 13 Celsius. Telling me that if I don't fork up a "first month's rent" cheque for the month after my contract ends, she'll give my room away; in January, I had to pay for May. When her daughter moved out, she took all of the "included" furnishings and dish ware, along with some of the other occupants' dishes and cutlery. Letting people she's showing the house to just walk into my room (which she was trying to sell while I still live there) while I am in it watching TV. She turned off the water without notice… and I was home.
But here's the clinch. Here's where it really gets from annoying to damn retarded.
The school year turnover, the old roommates moved out and new ones moved in. Five guys, they all know each other. I stayed, because I don't go to school. I just live here.
After a month, I present them with the internet bill, which is under my name a credit card. They present me with their contract (which I sneer with envy, as I don't have a copy of mine). On their contract, it says internet is included. As we discuss what she was thinking, it somehow comes up that I'll be moving out in September. Except I'm not the one telling them, they're telling that to me. Which is strange. Because that is not my intention.
She rented out a room to one of their friends.
So what the situation here, boys and Amy? Suggestions? I'm thinking of shit-storming and getting a buyout.
She's coming by tomorrow. Updates then.

Frag MagnetMemberFind some sort of advocate or student lawyer to talk to. Don't just up and do something rash because then (no matter how legitimate your issues are) you're pretty much fucked.
That's the best I've got.

MemberSounds like bullshit to me. You need to review the tenant/ landord laws for your state (oh wait, you're in Canada aren't you? review whatever laws they have in place for where you live), and for Pete's sake get a copy of that contract and keep any existing one you have!
Here in Ca., if a landlord is going to be showing the house for purposes of selling or renting to someone else, they legally have to give any current tenants 24 hrs. notice.
The whole shutting off utilities bit, threatening to give your room away, internet issues…document it, try to get verification from utility companies about things being shut off, lay low, keep a paper trail of anything you pay for,and see what she does if you don't plan on moving soon. You could have a good civil case on your hands if she wants to keep that up.
That's all I have.

MemberI don't know what the laws are in Canada, but in CA the laws TOTALLY favor the renter. My parents own a house in Running Springs which they have been renting out. The asshole living there hasn't paid full rent in 6 months, hasn't paid ANY rent in 4 months, and my mom was only allowed in the residence for 10 minutes, even with prior warning. Not only that, but the place was trashed and legally she was not allowed to take pictures! So, you really need to consult an attorney (like our tenant did, obviously, since he knew all these laws). You may have more recourse than you think.

[/quote1246597109]heh….that was funny reading the other day that not only is the state broke but also they failed to submit a budget on time….so that basically means they're late paying their bills.

MemberNo fucking shit dude… This place is going to hell in a handbag all because we thought it would be a good idea to put a T-100 in office. Christ, we're paying our bills with I-O-U's. "That's as good as money, sir. Those are I.O.U.'s. See this one? That's for a car, $275,00… Might wanna hold onto that one".
