kettner3000Member<p>I’m pretty over "new" Reel Big Fish. The bigger badder whatever is getting pretty fucking close to the nail in the coffin. I just listened to the first release of their best of and it was pretty lackluster. Slower versions of their good shit. Needless to say I won’t be buying the bigger better edition. I won’t be buying anything else RBF till they release some new shit. Same goes for shows; I haven’t seen them in two years and won’t till something new drops. Till then, I’m gonna go listen to Ben Folds.

MemberIt wouldn’t be so lame if they were just touring and not releasing new albums or songs, but its the fact that they keep on putting out these cash-in releases that have next to no artistic value. Not only was it pathetic that the re-recordings were released, but the fact that now they are re-releasing the re-recordings just stinks of greed. I know they probably aren’t very rich, but there are other things that the band could do then giving us a 58th studio version of “Beer”. But I’m not gonna lie, the last vestiges of hope I really had for this band left when Scott quit. I think he was the only person powerful enough in the band to have any kinda say against Aaron, and from talking to him, even before he quit, he seemed quite resigned to the fact that he probably wasnt gonna be doing any writing for new RBF material.

kettner3000MemberTheir live show hasn’t changed in years. If you’ve seen them once recently, you’ve seen them a million times. Would I like to see them play Cannibal live? Sure. Am I going to sit through a whole set for it? No. Youtube is great for hearing the one song you want. As far as the re-releases go, I know why they’re doing it, because Jive fucked them. I just wish they’d get it over with already so they can move on to some new stuff. Their stagnancy bothers me. I listened to their old stuff a couple days ago and I still love it. I’m just over waiting for something new. And for the love of god, quit it with the fucking covers.

MemberHave you actually seen them on tour? Their playing is tighter, there are more great aspects to the song selection than Cannibal (Down in Flames, the extended version of Where Have You Been?, Sayonara Senorita, The Kids Don’t Like It/In the Pit), and they seem a lot more…genuine. Because Scott’s gone, they’re re-discovering their ability to banter without relying on saying the same thing night after night.
But sure complain about the covers when they’ve said the covers are over and no new music when they have a new album coming out. -

kettner3000MemberOK, so it’s a “new” album, nothing I didn’t already know. I thought maybe some info missed me. OK, yeah, I knew there was a “new” album coming out, but don’t hold your fucking breath.

MemberI just saw this in a recent interview with Aaron Barrett:
PB: Since you write all the songs, do you think there
will be a new Reel Big Fish record soon? Have these guys inspired you to
get into the studio and write new material?AB: We’re probably going to do a new record — it’s been
a while. 2007 was the last time we had a new song come out, a new album
come out. I’m always writing songs and always working on stuff. So it’s
just a matter of having a couple months off the tour, getting in the
studio and putting stuff together. We’re not in really any hurry to do
an album. Everyone really loves our old songs. [laughs] We can tour for
the rest of our lives on those old songs, and the audience would be
mostly happy. We’ll do a new album just for fun. Here’s the link: http://pop-break.com/2011/08/03/interview-reel-big-fish/

kettner3000MemberI’d rather have a huge amount of new albums that all sound different, even if some of them suck. than have the same stale shit.
