Hey, been meaning to post this forever, but when I saw RBF live last month they played My Life live and it was fucking amazing. I have a really shitty recording I made that I’ll cut up along with the rest of both live shows whenever I get a chance.

Anybody else get to see it?

FINALLY Aaron realised that current RBF is more FOE than RBF – and I’m not speaking just of the lineup, but also the sound of the last album.

Now I’ve got something to look forward to for their next European tour.

Yeah, it was so long overdue! Dan (Cohen) said he saw it too when they played in Florida last. I’m so jealous of him btw, he’s about to go on the fucking Rock Boat and Reel Big Fish are one of his “camp counselors”. That bitch haha

      Is that the mixmasta?

Yes, Candy Coated Fury was a FOE album 85% of the way. I would praise the release if most of the songs had ended two minutes earlier.

Seriously, I can’t stress enough how good of a FOE-style album it would be if someone had the idea to not write 16 five-minute ska/punk songs.

I didn’t think the songs were WAYYY too long, but I do think they should’ve clipped em down a bit, and for god sakes not used a fade out to end half the damn songs. Actually my favorite song is probably I Dare You to Break My Heart, which is 5:15. Also love PS I Hate You and Punisher which are both right around 4:00+.

Though I still absolutely love Candy Coated Fury, I think having a sax on it and some stuff like the muted trumpet part are cool and new.

Dare You to Break My Heart doesn’t have a whole lot of unnecessary bridges/extra choruses, it works for the song. I think one of the biggest offenders is Everyone Else is and Asshole. That song should be two minutes and not have any of the three or four bridges it crams in.
It’s a shame. Despite it not being particularly adventurous, CCF has a lot of good ideas in it, but I personally can’t get past the massive structural problems to listen to it more than four or five times a year.

I think I’m still the only one who likes hiding in my headphones.

Hiding in my Headphones has grown on me a bit. It’s catchy as hell, for me the only issue is getting past the annoying high pitched vocals on there.

Agreed on Everyone is an Asshole though, but all told I would rank it as one of the better RBF albums and certainly a huge improvement versus their last two releases

      3. White Trash

I’ve been saying that RBF needs to play FOE songs ever since FOE was dead. I even thought RBF should “cover” the FOE catalog and release it as RBF (just like Streetlight did). My Life and Ska Show were always my favorites, but FOE had many songs that could be slipped into a RBF show and that the crowds would enjoy.

And yes, CCF was more FOE than RBF.

…Just watched the My Life cover before posting this, and it makes me miss Scott even more because I know he could of sung those high notes like no other.

My Life is probably my favourite FOE song along with Mistake.

Although I came to appreciate CCF quite a bit, I would never put it above Cheer up!. Maybe it can win over We’re not happy, but it’s close.

Mistake is great but somebody else in FOE sings the chorus I believe. I’m not sure if that would stop RBF from playing it.

If you guys had to rank Forces of Evil’s ‘Friend or Foe’ in the same list of RBF’s albums where would you rank it? It’s tough for me to decide about ‘Friend or Foe’ because I actually enjoyed Cheer Up, even though it was a departure of RBF’s usual sound.

I’m going to see Reel Big Fish in Brooklyn on Monday night, I’ll post here if they play any FOE covers. Based on recent setlists, they’ve been playing My Life, Angry Anthem, and Fight.

So it’s not just My life. This could be preluding to them including some FOE material in a (hypothetical) new album.

I’ve seen them play My Life and Fight but I would love to see Angry Anthem. That is most likely my favorite FOE song. Love the acoustical version they do, #19?

I asked John about Ska Show and it was on the list of songs they were going to play on tour but they never got around to practicing it before the tour started. So hopefully it will be on their set list next tour. I forgot to ask about Mistake.

Angry Anthem would be so much fun life

They could do it into or out of, or as a break down, for Another FU song too. Same with Everyone Else is an Asshole.
