      Just seen it on FB

This makes Aaron the only original member left, and the only one in the band from the pre-Cheer up! era. I was kind of expecting this since Dan’s daughter was born, I think it’s only fair. Best luck to him with everything in life and the brewery thing.

I guess we will get some message here now… this place only gets alive when one of the band members leaves.

Sad to hear this. Cannibal was my favorite song on Monkeys For Nothin’ and hoped Dan would have been a continuing influence or write more songs. I guess it’s truly Aaron’s band now.

The question is….. Who can replace him? Scott was irreplaceable so they took a different path with a Saxaphone. RBF needs a Trombone though. Any guesses? Possibly another ex-FoE or JFC member?

It’s sort of funny because lately I’ve been thinking “Hasn’t Ryland been around for too long?” Don’t get me wrong, I like Ryland but I’ve enjoyed the ever changing and different drumming styles that each few RBF albums have experienced. I had seen a fill-in drummer about 2 years ago and it was a refreshing change, he wasn’t great but he had a fun and loose punk feel. It made me miss Andrew’s amazing drumming, who is was way better than the fill-in guy but had a similar feel.

Sad past couple of days for ReelBigCohen… hopefully they won’t breakup before the cruise!

^ I woudn’t be worried about a break up. I don’t think Aaron could ever afford it.

Yeah..very sad news. His dance moves will definitely be missed.

: I suggest Nadav from Streetlight 😀 ! wouldn’t that be amazing.. + they stop touring in less than a month. Perfect timing

That would be awesome but if i could pick anyone… MIKE SOPRANO. That would make me so happy.

I remember they had another trombone player for some dates of a past tour (some 2-3 years ago), does anyone happen to remember who he was? That would be the most obvious candidate.

Samu – Do you know which shows that was for? American, Europe, Australia, or South America? If we can find a video from one of the shows, maybe we can figure out who it was. I’ve tried finding video from recent shows, I think they played last night, but there is nothing up yet.

….Checked their twitter before I posted. Apparently Dan’s last show was last night, so nobody new just yet.

I don’t remember… I think it was in US for just a couple of dates.

Nobody bnew? I don’t think RBF can just go on without a trombone, it’s too much part of their sound and besides, being a trumpet player myself, I can tell you a horn section with just trumpet and sax will not work.

When RBF toured with Pilfers earlier this year, they had their trombonist sub in sometimes, and they had the trombonist from Big D and the Kids Table sub in for a few Warped Tour dates this past summer. Not sure if they’d have either of those guys back, since they’d either have to pull double duty or leave the other band entirely.

Billy Kottage? I wasn’t too familiar with him but after checking out some videos on youtube he seems like a solid Trombone player with good skills on the keyboard/organ-synths.

Given the opportunity I bet he had no problem giving up his spot in The Pilfers and Big D. The Pilfers are always on-and-off. Plus, the second Vinny Nobile is willing to return Billy would be out. Big D is more stable but still, being in RBF is probably most horn player’s dream.

Looking forward to seeing the band in January. It’s a bit sad w/o Dan but at least my understanding is that he’ll be making beer!

So, the guys have done a number of shows without Dan now; has anyone got any news about the replacement? (if there is a replacement!)

It’s Billy Kottage playing with them.
