No idea, but I'm holding on to stretched hope that it has music videos.

Just read "Rock Ridge Music has indicated that the disc will feature the band performing 20 songs, along with bonus material. A title and other details are forthcoming." and "in the works for a late July release."

so, after viewing this DVD in full, here's what I have to say about it…

you know on the "You're All In This Together" DVD when Aaron says "sometimes you record a show… and it sucks… or sometimes it's pretty good"?

this was one of the former.

this DVD is a really great recording of a really off night, joking is kept to a minimum, playing is sloppy and the crowd is putrid… it's a bit like a really cruddy picture in a really nice frame. I love RBF live, on a good night they can bring to you the best concert you've ever seen… but, like any performers, they have off nights (as shown here)

here are some other observations: (+ denotes good. – denotes bad)
It's in wide screen (+)
the picture is grand (+)
Aaron does okay for a first time director but I wouldn't say he missed his calling (-)
The Setlist could have been better, easily (-)
this concert clocks in at about 70 minutes, the backstage stuff clocks in at under five… there's just not a whole lot of content to be found. (-)
it sounds as though there were no overdubs, there are plenty of accidental mess ups throughout that have gone uncorrected (+ & -)

all in all, I like it fine… but it will probably be the last RBF live DVD I show people.

Did you get to see me punch a crowdsurfer in the cock on it?

I liked the first DVD, if not for them playing some songs that they don't really anymore, but also it documents the beginning of the end for Tyler Jones.

no, not really.

the first DVD is a great performance by everyone but tyler. the new dvd just seems like it was a bad night for everyone… the band seems really bored…. just an off night it happens… I saw them in Boston last tuesday and it was 1,000 fucking time better (Aaron even made a comment to the effect of "I wish you guys had been there for the DVD… it would've been way better… that was in our hometown, too… sad")

I got the DVD early 'cause they started selling them for the first time at the Boston show.

I think the second DVD spoiled me.

I mean everything about it is just so much better than the first one that sometimes I forget it's not really so bad.

The opening is shit though. Crappy performance of a weak song. Funny the first time, though.

It's understandable that a performance may not be good if the crowd isn't into it. But that's why RBF should forget the hometown stuff and just choose where they get the most energy. It may cost more to shoot the dvd and hire camera operaters but it would be worth it to have a great performance. The crowd in Cali just looks so bored on both dvds. The most lively crowds I've seen on other band's dvds and videos seems to be Japan and Mexico.

no, I agree. if the crowd's dead the show's dead. I think it may be the frequency of shows played in the area that fuels the apathy. the energy would likely be upped if they shot somewhere that hadn't seen the band for 6 months or more.

maybe that's reading too much into it.. it really just looks like it was an off night. could happen anywhere.

I definitely agree that RBF have probably oversaturated the area, along with any ska in general. I've seen them on an off night and it was dissapointing, but I really feel as if postive energy from an audiance can change the whole performance if the band wants to allow it – or atleast that's what the OpIvy cd booklet told me.

• #22859

It wasn't that the crowd was dead… It was that the crowd was a bunch of dildos and would rather circle pit than skank and have a good time. Really killed the mood for me. So I took up the hobby of abusing crowdsurfers and beating the hardcore dancers.

They should film here. We rarely get ska shows, and when we do, it's explosive. Hell, that Mad Caddies live album sounded great, and that was in Trev's neck of the woods.

You get a better reaction if the crowd is grateful you're there, and desperate to hear you. I severely doubt Cali has been suffering from a lack of ska shows.

• #22873

True. It's cool they film here, but all the ska kids out here are jaded. Give someone else a chance guys. We appreciate the thought, but there are other parts of the world that like you too. 😀

Same here, only they skank during punk songs and mosh during ska songs here.

Still, at least the crowd is into it.

You get dildos everywhere, I find it's best to just do what I feel like and ignore everyone else – which tends to be grooving in one spot interspersed by spells in the pit so I tend to find myself chilling on the edge of the pit all night – not a place to be if you can't tolerate assholes. Which I usually can't. I guess I just take it for granted at gigs.

I find that standing to the side usually works. Sometimes I'd wander over to the pit and just go nuts, they usualy give up moshing if they realize you're in there to hurt them.

OR you actually start a brawl !lol
But seriously, mosh fanatics can be really annoying.
One song or two, it can be fun. But the whole concert? Bah.

Ok, My review. I like that it's not over dubbed. I don't feel as if they were completly lacking energy. Aaron was working pretty hard, so was his Rogaine. I really just feel as if the camera operaters dropped the ball this time. The shaking and random zooming was worse than some of the unprofessional youtube bootleg vids. The lighting is horrible, again – not fully RBF's fault, just simply that the venue's lights and stage don't look good on video. Almost every shot felt like I was watching a 'behind the scenes' of a RBF show – not the show itself. The setlist, well most of us already agree that it was a let down. Next DVD needs to be thought out better and choose a good looking venue with energetic fans. We know they're capable of great setlists, let see one next time.

Samu you're right about questioning the need for a new dvd. I guess it shouldn't happen for a long time, and when they do it should not include any songs already on a dvd already released. They could perform a concert that is all rarities and new material – once they've released a fair amount that's good. Plus by then they'll probably have a new drummer which will make it interesting.

If they must do a new DVD, shake shit up a bit. Do it acoustic or with strings. Anything. I love the band and I really want to see them break off and do some new stuff.

Google DVD Decrypter and how to rip DVD audio from it. It's the program I use.
