My first RBF show is tomorrow, at the Filmore in Charlotte NC. I can’t fuckin wait. I was wodnering what to expect. First of all, I have seen the pics of ‘Summer of ska tour’ shows and its packed. I want to be at the very front, on the lawn, right in front of the stage. How will I do this? Do I just wait after the last band plays while everyone disperses until RBF, securing a spot next to the stage? or what?

Any other tips for my first show?

and should I try to meet the band, i want to talk or at least meet aarron or anyone in the band, maybe get them to sign my shirt or answer a fan boy question. would this be acceptable?

Have you been to any concerts of this sort before? If not, be prepared to be pushed around and kicked in the head A LOT. It’s really easy to get annoyed with that fast, but it’s totally worth it to be right there in front of the band.

In terms of actually getting to the front, it’s easiest to slip your way to the front in the downtime between the previous band and RBF. It’s ideal to make it to the railing, so you can hold onto it and secure your spot a little more, but it’s key to hold your ground. It’s definitely worth the trouble.

Have fun! Report back with setlist/fun experiences and whatnot.

And yeah, it’s awesome to meet the band if you can. They’ve come to expect fans flocking to them after shows and they’re really nice about it.

I don’t know how it’s going in the US, but over here your best bet would be to make your way in the downtime before the band before starts, not right before RBF.

Let’s say there are 3 bands A, B and RBF. You get on side front between A and B, then take advantage of fans of B dispersing to sneak into center front and grab the rail.
      That’s my advice.
Other advice: since “morons’ mother is always pregnant” (btw, have you got a similar idiom or is it just here?) be prepared to people in the front rows acting like jerks, crowdsurfing, kicking, opening moshpits etc.
If SM is not on this tour, the density of morons should drastically decline.

A great way to get on the barrier is to get to the show early and grab your spot when the doors open. This is the most effective and courteous way to do it. still, expect a bunch of assholes to try and push their way through your body once RBF starts, because for some reason, they’re more entitled to be there than the people that waited in line for two hours pre-show and stood in place through all of the other bands.

That being said, if you like dancing more than watching, you’re better off just finding any old place in the crowd. Let us know how it goes!

This isn’t preparing for your SAT’s…

      Just skank and sing along.

Whether you are in the front row, or the furthest away from the stage, just skank and sing along.

      and repeat the entire time.

      enjoy

I was suppose to see them last year in Charlotte but Aarron got sick and had to cancel….little did I know they’d be back one year later, with Big D, Goldfinger and SL with them! Thanks for the advice, will report back with wild stories and such. My goal is to be on the front row when the Fish hit the stage, and to talk to them after…I really want to ask Aarron if “So Much For Rock n Roll” is a cover or if he wrote that song? I’ll be taking you guys advice and get a spot at the front way before RBF, since I love all the other bands, its easy.

Now for the hard part…the beer…I guess I’ll be sending my brother and his friends back and forth to the beer station for me 🙂

yeah that is the difficult part. best method is, just dont care about drinking once you get to the front. If you do, you wont have beer to drink by the time the first song is over. *spilled*

once in the front, very rarely are people able to return if they leave their spot (at least while carrying beer). Hard to throw elbows and not spill that precious brew.

Make a choice. Abuse the alcohol by neglect and spillage, or stay in front and enjoy the band you went to see to the fullest extent, and enjoy that rush of adrenaline

The only way for you to get beer would be carrying one to the front before the mayhem begins and carefully place the glass besides the rail. That could allow for a quick sip in between songs.

Good call, everyone. I’ll buy 2 beers and bring them to the front with me and stick out the rest of the show dry.

Now the hard part will be convincing my brother and his friends to stay by my side….without their beers, lol.

Or I could bring in liquor bottles in the pocket…

    • #28754

google search: Cruise Rum Runner kits.

Plastic flasks. 8 oz. Undetectable by metal detectors and easily stored in your pocket. Some liquor stores sell em so call around

Now the hard part becomes, pour/drink in front of security without getting caught

Solution to your other ‘hard part’, let them make the fatal mistake of leaving their front row spot. Enjoy the show!
