Hi all!
I know I've been absent for quite a bit. I've had a lot going on. One full time job and two part time jobs, trying to dig out of the financial hole my failing/failed business left me in. But, good news on one of those jobs. If you don't mind, I'm going to brag a bit!
If you don't know, I have coached a high school boy's varsity volleyball team for the last 8 years. When I started we were in an awful league, which we won every year, but which didn't make us any better. Three years ago we were put into an extremely tough league. We got our asses handed to us that first year, but I had a great freshman, Davonte, and sophomore, Jose, who I convinced that we could be a better team if we could find some dedicated players like them.
We have worked so hard over the last couple years. Davonte is now a junior and Jose is now a senior. We have acquired some awesome, and tall, players. This season was nothing short of amazing. We finished 3rd in our league (out of 7) and made the playoffs.
LA City Section playoffs are confusing, but in a nutshell, we were placed in the equivalent of the Division 2 playoffs (it is loosely based on enrollment). We were the #11 seed out of 16, which I was pissed about, because I knew we were better than that. We won the first round, then won in the quarters, then won in the semis, and found ourselves in the finals against the #1 seed, Chatsworth.
Now, Chatsworth is a valley school, known for their volleyball prowess. My school is in the hood, which is regularly dissed by the valley. Well, we proceeded to beat them in the final, 22-25, 25-22, 28-26, 25-20 to win the LA City Section Invitational Championship!!
I'm so proud of my players; I really feel like they are my kids. I'll post some pics in a bit, but with my dial-up, it takes a while. Anyway, thats how I've been spending my time lately. Thanks for indulging me!
