MemberGlad they got John to answer these questions as opposed to Aaron, since I think Aaron would have just shrugged a lot of them off. He’s been doing a lot more interviews, and he and Ryland are probably my favorite interviewees currently in the band, they’re really down-to-earth guys. (Dan jokes around too much, Aaron’s Aaron, and…does anyone ever interview Derek? Do they keep him locked under the bus or something?)
Anyway, I think it’s really interesting how John has “only heard rumors” about the new album, and that shows that the band dynamic has at least changed since Tyler was in the band, as I recall him doing an interview shortly before his ejection from the band in which he talks about the then-unnamed WNHTYNH and the track “The Fire.”“I don’t think there’s any covers in the works.” THANK GOD. Knew his favorite track would be Take on Me, since it’s a crowd pleaser, but Brown Eyed Girl surprised me, I guess because it’s recently popular? Nice to hear about how the cover of Another Day in Paradise came about.Regarding Rock Ridge, I’m not at all surprised, since they’re an indie band that’s represented by Piss Off, and only distributed by Rock Ridge. I honestly want to hear an interviewer ask about Vince Pileggi and how the band’s kept him around throughout the years. What I was surprised to hear was that WDTRSH? cost $200,000 to make. Maybe Mojo was counting on it being (a lot) more successful than it was, riding on the coattails of an album with a successful single? I mean, it sounds really good, but wow. I had no idea.Love the Galaxy Quest question! I want to go and see if I can spot John in those movies now…I also had no idea John plays guitar. Hm.I wonder how many people think his real name is Johnny Christmas… -

Member$200,000? Hot damn. No wonder the more recent albums don’t sound as good.

MemberI wonder how much Cheer Up! cost, considering it was recorded at a shitton of studios and was a shiny shiny autotune pop punk album. Well, at least half of it was.
At least we know WNHTYNH was recorded entirely in Aaron’s bathroom*, so that probably didn’t cost too much.*it wasn’t****but there is that one picture of him recording guitar in a bathroom -

MemberI imagine the production of WNHTYNH as Aaron trying to get it to sound like a Steve Albini-produced album.
Hell, it’s the only album Aaron’s produced that actually had a “sound” at all. -
