Who's Going to any of the fall shows? And tell us :D

I might be going to the Starland Ballroom show. It's not far from where I live.

……also it will be my first Reel Big Fish show when I became a fan in 2008

But not huge enough to go to another country.

Starland sucks dude, good luck. I saw Streetlight there for their "farewell for now" show, and it was awful. We started Streetlight's set at the very front by the stage, and by the end of the first song, we were in the back. The people that go there by and large are assholes.

I'm an hour away from NYC.
But I don't wanna go due to family reasons. I have to bring my Older brother who is 27 now. I have to get my own money, and plus I kind of hate going to New York City.
I'll be fine, just as long as I don't get asshole in the front.
Please tell me how bad your show when you saw Streetlight?Because I have a friend who a big fan and he claims that "most of SLM fans are pretty fucking stupid" So it just may be a bad fans

I seriously thought all the SM fans were like me.

They're not. They don't like SM because they appreciate the musicianship or the structure of the songs or anything like that.

IT'S FAST MUSIC WITH FAST DRUMS AND I NEED TO JUMP AROUND AND PUNCH PEOPLE AND I NEED TO SEE TOMAS KALNOKY BECAUSE HE IS MY GOD AND WRITES THE MUSIC WITH FAST DRUMS AND HE PLAYS GUITAR FAST AND SCREAMS SOMETIMES NANANANANANANAAAAAAAAAAAA

That's what I imagine is running through the mind of an average person at a Streetlight Manifesto show. My thoughts were more along the lines of "Holy shit, they're going to play [song x, for sake of example, let's say The Blonde Lead the Blind] live!? I hope [band member; Matt] can play [hard part of the song; that high note at the end] live. It would be so cool if he could." … "WOW THEY JUST DID THAT LIVE NOW I'M IMPRESSED WHAT SONG WILL THEY PLAY NEXT"

Also, when I saw Reel Big Fish people were moshing to Kiss Me Deadly. TTLY APPROPRIATE

HOW THE FUCK DO YOU MOSH TO KISS ME DEADLY?!?!?! Really stupid………

And Fuck the SLM fans, Really beside that one buddy of mine I've yet to see a fan who really look into the the lyrics and stuff. And I don't know why people Love Tomas that much. Tomas is good and all, but why is there a very heavy fan base around him? Dicky Barrett Should be getting more fans then him really :/

I wouldn't say that. The thing that amazes me most about Tomas is that he wrote Keasbey Nights between the ages of 16-18, and it's still one of my favorite albums. I love the arrangements for Streetlight and I like his lyrics for what they are, and they work for the concepts of the albums. The dude writes good music. I would say he's the Rivers Cuomo of ska (pre-2000s Rivers, of course).

Dicky Barrett is a fantastic guy and all, and his music's catchy, but I don't find nearly as much meaning as I do in Streetlight's music, or Tomas' music in general.

Also: Bandits. A source of both love and hate directed towards Tomas Kalnoky. BANDITS.

Yeah, when I saw them last year, all these people were throwing anything they could at them, trying to hit them and mess them up. I was baffled. They were playing an awesome set, they were being fun and cool with the crowd…couldn't understand it. I left the room and got a drink while I listened to the rest of the set from outside.

Did anyone go to a show yet?

• #27170

Went last Saturday, but I don't know if that counts…since fall didn't officailly start until this last Wednesday.

Good show. Starpool was awesome. It was basically Save Ferris all over again…without Monique Powell. The after party was bitchin'.

So I'm totally going to the Starland Ballroom show.

I'm not asking much, but the songs I really want them to play would be Party Down and Alternative Baby. Aleast one of the songs would be fine.

Other then that, I gonna have a good time πŸ™‚

Went to the Chicago show.

The Aquabats set was boring. They have very catchy songs but every 15-30 seconds they'd either have a random music breakdown that didn't sound great or they would just stop playing and start talking. It REALLY killed the energy of their set.

Reel Big Fish walked out on stage and at first I though Justin was their drummer again [it was dark and smokey/foggy on stage] but then I was relieved to see that it wasn't him. Honestly this drummer isn't the greatest but he has that raw sloppy energy that RBF hasn't had in quite awhile, but I see that there is a different thread debating drummers and bass players. When RBF asked the crowd who's first time to their show, the majority of people raised their hand. It was a good set list for all the first timers. All the members were into the show tonight, they were having fun. The crowd was REALLY into it- but the crowd didn't show it through skanking or crowd surfing, just straight up shoving. Aaron thought it was funny, it kind of was because people weren't angry – just confused I guess. The crowd fell for it when RBF tried closing the show without playing Beer. Aaron played the first few riffs of Cannibal, then went into Beer. I actually wanted Cannibal….

Probably the second best RBF show I've seen. Seeing RBF enjoy what they're doing made it that much better.

It's a show review!

Set list, as best I can remember (some things are out of order, and maybe also missing):

Sell Out
Another FU Song
I Want Your Girlfriend
Monkey Man –>
Everything Sucks
Thank You For Not Moshing (with Coolie Ranx). This song included a fleeting, half-assed attempt at Song #3, but they hadn't practiced and so just finished TYFNM.
241
Snoop Dog, Baby
Kiss Me Deadly
Ban The Tube Top
The Bad Guy
She Has a Girlfriend Now (with Katrina Kinzler)
Brown Eyed Girl
Good Thing (with Brian Klemm)
Your Guts (With Brian Klemm). Aaron is hilariously awkward without a guitar. His stage moves included jumping jacks. It was funny, but I was glad to see him pick up his instrument again.
Enter Sandman/The Set-Up. Aaron got confused twice at the bridge and abruptly transitioned to…
Beer

Trendy
SR
SR (punk)
SR (disco)
SR (country)
SR (death metal)
Take on Me

Other bands' set lists? I can try!

Aquabats:

Fashion Zombies
Martian Girl
Nerd Alert
Look at Me, I'm A Winner
Pizza Day
Red Sweater
Captain Hampton And The Midget Pirates
Super Rad
Pool Party

(this set somehow took an hour! They probably joked around as much as they played).

Suburban Legends:

Hey DJ
High Fives
Getting Down To Business
Bright Spring Morning
Bed Intruder Song
My Friend (which seems to be about Aaron Barrett)
Open Up Your Eyes
Come Back Home

Overall impressions:

Great, fun show! I missed Koo Koo Kangaroo, but the three bands I caught all did a fantastic job. For those who are interested, there was lots of cheap merch. Being frugal myself, I only bought the new SL EP, but all three bands had music for $5 or less. Reel Big Fish was selling TTRO, Monkeys, and the most recent DVD for $5 each. They were selling FFF on vinyl for $10.

Did Reel Big Fish re-invent the wheel for their set? Certainly not. As a hardened veteran of their shows, I'd seen them play all of these songs before, some many times. I'd like to see them throw some newer material into the set. But you know what? The kids love it–half the crowd raised their hands when asked if it was their first Reel Big Fish show, the band was tight and full of energy, and it's always a blast to see them. Viva Reel Big Fish.

I just got back from the show.

…….it was epic.

The Set list is pretty much the same expect songs order being changed up, but also thrown in Suckers near the end.

I like the show really, a lot of skanking and a lot of fun. Jokes were by far the best, and the show was just non-stop. (beside that whole "OK THAT'S OUR LAST SONG! BYE! OK WE HAVE TIME TO PLAY ONE MORE SONG!"

The other bands did good too! While not a big fan of Aquabats, I had fun at with there act. Koo Koo Kangaroo is actally kind of fun really, and Suburban lengends were awesome just to begin with.

A great show overal.

Also FFF for vinyl. Yeah, I got that……….all is left is Monkeys Vinyl πŸ™‚ I also got the Suburban Lengend's new EP. Which I'm lisiting to now and it kicks ass.

Oh and maybe, MAYBE I'll post pictures, if i remember.

After last night's show in Boston I don't think I'm going to go to any Reel Big Fish shows until I know they're going to play some new songs. I'm so tired of the same set list. It was nice to hear 241… but it's not enough.

When Aaron started playing Cannibal my heart raced, hoping that they might actually play it. It sounded so beautiful live and the build up seemed to be catching the crowd's interest… but then it was Beer and the show returned to its cliché. They're still talented musicians and all, but the shows lack the magic that originally attracted me.

Bottom line neither myself nor the band are drunk enough to have as much fun as we used to have.

show last night in Boston was good. It was nice to hear Monkey Man, Kiss Me Deadly, and 241.

Five problems with the show:

1. The Setlist I do not think "The Bad Guy" is a very good song. I never have, I never will… still, the set contained this and not "Where have you been", Don't Start a Band" and anything less than five covers. It was still a great show… but two covers is enough.

2. Brian Klemm is GREAT!… in Suburban Legends having Klemm come on stage just to play Good Thing/Your Guts seemed like an unnecessary gesture… also, Aaron doesn't know how to front without a guitar… sadly.

3. The Floor – pt. 1 The floor in the boston hob is cement… this isn't RBF's fault… but it makes all the shows their a pain in the feet to get through… the floor absorbs no force and after just a couple of songs, your feet fuckin' hurt.

4. cadets fucking love to push mother fuckers moshed the whole show… I spent the first two AQB songs at the front before I said "FUUUUUUUUUCCCCKKK THIS". Totally different dynamic from the beat tour. it kinda ruined it… this is the main reason why I will not hit this tour again should it come back through boston. Seriously, when RBF played TYFNM Aaron ended the song by making a hand sweeping motion over his head… indicating that the front half of the room had completely missed the Irony, as they had.

5. Overload This seems to me, and also to my group of 5 who attended, to be the main problem with this show. The Aquabats put on an energetic show, as do reel big fish. both sets are of a decent length. unfortunately, there is too much of a good thing… and by the time RBF took the stage, the audience was fucking tired and ready to go home… the show is so big, I felt, that by the time the band I really came to see started, I was ready to go home… both RBF and AQB put on great shows… but together it's a prime rib followed by a creme pie… I had a good time… but the Aquabats are not an opening band… that's just how it is.

I went to a show the Aquabats headlined earlier this year. I expected there to be a bunch of people in costumes dancing around and being happy. Besides my friend and I, there were two other people dressed up and everyone moshed the whole time. I don't mind a little moshing, but during "Pool Party"? No. It was weird.

Having him play just the intro just confuses me. I mean, when I first heard it, I was like
"Cannibal? um…….hey that's cool"

But then switching it to Beer is just weird. I guess Aaron must really really really love just to play the intro.

It's a little bit over the top to consider Aaron's Cannibal gag a "personal slight." I don't think he's trying to upset anyone–if anything, this shows how much he assumes fans don't want to hear new stuff. And it's not as if the crowd's reaction when he switches to Beer–rapture, basically–does anything to make him feel like he's done something wrong. If you really want to hear Cannibal, hit the band up on facebook and Twitter and ask them to actually go through with playing the song. They seem pretty responsive to fan feedback on those sites.

They only answer stuff that smart ass people post. They rarely post anything informal to fans (beside posting status)

• #27464

If enough people ask for the same thing, they'd probably at least address it. If you are the only person who asks about Cannibal, you might be out of luck. I've seen them ignore some requests, but they've responded to people asking about individual songs–yes to She's Famous Now (not for an individual date, but just to say that they still play it) and no to We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful. But they definitely know that the fans pay the bills, so if they see that there is overwhelming interest in a certain song it doesn't make sense that they would resist playing it out of spite.

I asked them to play I'm Her Man for me and my girlfriend, and Aaron responded as if he would. No such luck.

Then again, that was also the show where the band left so fucking sneakily so they could avoid the ten fans that wanted to meet them. I'm still a little resentful.
