[/quote1281035599]Actually, the point more dealt with the effects of making something illegal that does no harm and who benefits from such an unjust law. But I get that you just want to be a dickhead, so: fuck off.
I don't give a shit if you do or don't but the laws are bullshit and only serve to hurt society.

MemberIt's a very valid point. I don't really care if someone smokes or not (as long as they aren't a dick about me doing so on my own time) but it really angers me when people refuse to step back and take a good hard look at the follies of substance control.
Yes there will undoubtedly be down sides to legalisation but I find it very hard to believe that they would outweigh the problems we're facing with prohibition. You'd have to make some seriously good points to change my mind on the issue. -

MemberWell that, and the fact that legalisation would end all marijuana based crimes and take a large amount of income away from gangs and into public services.

MemberReally? I pretty much stopped drinking for 2 years when I took up weed and am very rarely drunk in public (and much less aggressive when I am, although that probably has more to do with personal growth).
But yeah, if you make weed available then many (not all, or even necessarily the majority) people would choose one or the other on most nights out thereby reducing alcoholism.
Although it should be noted that most people who would choose weed are already smoking it so the effect may not be as severe as some people would lead you to believe. -

The WindMemberThat was partially my point. If people aren't doing it, it's not because of legalities.

MemberYeah, but there must be some people out there who have the occasional spliff but tend to drink who would change their consumption pattern if there were no potential legal ramifications to consuming weed.
Still, it's not really the main point when it comes to legalisation – more of a bonus – the economic boost and the improvement in law enforcement priorities coupled with the increased prison space for serious offenders are the biggest positives on a socio-political level.

[/quote1282603121]I haven't smoked pot in months and that's due to the legalities. Also, as such, my alcohol consumption has gone up.
