      the eagles – long run
      john mellencamp – authority song
desmond dekker – keep a cool head
      tom petty – i won't back down
poison – talk dirty to me

      and monkey man again…
this a a major bummer. I love their covers but I don't think I can deal with the blatant unoriginality of this album.

OC'S original skanking pranksters Reel Big Fish have finished mixing and mastering the tracks that will make up their new album, a 10 song serving of high-energy covers which they've dubbed, Fame, Fortune and Fornication.

The release is set to include the band's signature ska take on such classics as Poison's "Talk Dirty To Me" and The Eagles "The Long Run.
      "
For good measure, Reel Big Fish pay tribute to their early ska/reggae forefather's with versions of Desmond Dekker's "Keep A Cool Head"

The album (which will also be available in limited special edition vinyl) was produced by front man Aaron Barret and recorded at Music Inc. Studios in Orange, CA.

Set to drop in January 2009 via Rock Ridge Music, the release of Fame, Fortune and Fornication will coincide with the launch of a major world tour with Streetlight Manifesto and up-and-comer's One Pin Short and Tip The Van. The trek will take the band across the US and over to the UK, Europe and Russia. Later this month Reel Big Fish heads over to Latin American for a string of shows in Brazil, Ar gentina, Chile and Mexico

Still, a CD made up of only covers is a bit of a shame, I'd have liked to see some new RBF songs.

psh, get over it, Aaron's never gonna go back to subway, we've got time….

i'm hella excited for most of the tracks listed!

where the fuck does it mention Monkey Man?

shouldn't we change the title of this topic?

they've been talking about doing a covers album for years, I'm honestly excited, I love RBF's originals but the covers have been there for ever and are really just a part of what RBF is today!

plus it's only 10 covers, which makes me thing they're hiding something even grander….. I mean… the post said they're done with it… and yet we don't get it 'till next year!!?!?!!

I think we'll get some new stuff soon after…

It's a stop gap release. It's purely to buy them time for their next album. Like an EP or a live album.

Though I don't know why they'd need to do that, bands like Buck-O-Nine went over 6 years without releasing an album.

… Then there's Streetlight. What else do you think the Keasbey re-release was for?

That's absolutely not what it was for. Kalnoky doesn't give a damn, he just wanted the Keasby Songs to a) sound perfect, and b) to have the Streetlight name attached to it.

Well, i'm gutted it's not an original album. But i'm sure it'll be fun. I thought the Phil Collin's cover was a bit tame, hopefully they'll have some good ideas on there.

Just found this tracklisting on AbsolutePunk.net

      Track Listing
      1. Nothing But a Good Time (Poison)
      2. Mama We're All Crazy Now (Slade)
      3. Veronica Sawyer (Edna's Goldfish)
      4. Authority Song (John Mellencamp)
      5. Brown Eyed Girl (Van Morrison)
      6. The Long Run (The Eagles)
      7. Won't Back Down (Tom Petty)
      8. Keep a Cool Head (Desmond Dekker)
      9. Monkey Man (Toots and the Maytals)
      10. Talk Dirty to Me (Poison)

Looks like MonkeyMan is on there.

Very cool they're doing Veronica Sawyer, always on of my favourite songs.

    • #18638

i was a bit shitted off with a covers album

there hasn't been really many new fish originals for a while

like monkeys for nothing wasnt much original, than u had duet all night long. and there was the live album which had 1 original

but i guess it'll still be an awesome album anyway.

That's the thing, Kalnoky is the type of pretentious guy who would give a damn about the little difference between sound. Did he say that in the interview on the final track? That Catch's sounded "like garbage" to him?

Regards to songs they don't have rights too. I previously stated that I heard they'd be re-recording all of there songs recorded under Jive. Whether these get released as a huge discography album or something I don't know. It would be good though. 🙂

      from buzznet:
Reel Big Fish to 'Fornicate' in 2009 With Covers Record

On Friday, Buzznet spoke exclusively with Reel Big Fish singer Aaron Barrett about the band's upcoming record, Fame, Fortune, Fornication. A press release was released today and reveals both the record's theme and track list.

The 'reel big' surprise is that Fornication (out January 22) is actually a record of cover songs, not to mention one that tackles almost every music genre including hair metal and classic-rock. Always wanted to hear Reel Big Fish do Tom Petty? It's on this album!

      Fame, Fortune, Fornication track list:

"Nothing But a Good Time" (Poison)
"Mama We're All Crazy Now" (Slade)
      "Veronica Sawyer" (Edna's Goldfish)
      "Authority Song" (John Mellencamp)
      "Brown Eyed Girl" (Van Morrison)
      "The Long Run" (The Eagles)
      "Won't Back Down" (Tom Petty)
"Keep a Cool Head" (Desmond Dekker)
"Monkey Man" (Toots and the Maytals)
      "Talk Dirty to Me" (Poison)

"It's, like, our most ska-punk album ever. There's a cover of [Poison's] "Talk Dirty To Me" with guest vocals from Tatiana DeMaria from U.K. punk band TAT," Barrett recently revealed to Buzznet's own DJ Rossstar. The band is no stranger to cover songs. In 2007, the band released a split EP of covers with Zolof The Rock & Roll Destroyer, Duet All Night Long, featuring duets between Barrett and Zolof singer Rachel Mintz, although the band is perhaps best known for their cover of A-ha's "Take on Me" which first appeared on the soundtrack to the 1998 comedy "BASEketball" and is still performed live during a traditional RBF set.

Are you interested in a new record of covers by Reel Big Fish or would you rather the band release another record of original music?

Agreed. How the hell does the art work on the album determine whether the music is good or not? After I saw Suburban Legends on their last tour, I said they were the Village People. It was explained to me (I forget by who) that they were simply dressing to express the different styles of music. This album is old school covers. The artwork represents that.

      Obviously us…

If you can see a band has put some effort to making an attractive cover / artwork / whatever they generally care more for the music within.

I appreciate both arguments, but personally I don't think cover art reflects the quality of an album. Brian Klemm had the look they were going for based on the content of the album. I'm going to wait to hear the music to judge.

Because bad album covers are repelling. They look like shit.

Good albums can be hurt sales-wise by a shitty cover.

Why don't you all pull your rising 'Oi' fists out of your ass and use your heads instead?

    • #19047

Haha! If you have any idea about using your head, you'll know that artwork is a complete kind of art compared to musical ability. I've bought many albums thinking they would be good, and they fuckin' sucked. Bottom line, you don't know what it's gonna sound like until you buy it and listen…so pull your fist or gerbal out of your ass and get happy, you quivering, thunder cunt.

guys seriously, enough with the squealing,

I can see what LAB is saying, in the end the artwork doesn't really mean anything, it's the inside that counts.

however, Desensitized is right because it's nice to know that the artwork is having some work into it and the every aspect of the album has been looked after….

it's liked if you had two Girls/Guys with the exact same personalities and intelligence and all that would you persue the good looking or fuck ugly one?

      it's not important, but it's still a nice touch…
