Why do we always have to be the protectors? Can't somebody else do it?

We've had deal with Russia too many times. It is Canada's turn this time, have fun.

Here is how I understand it. Help me if I'm wrong. There is a state in Georgia (South Ossetia) that wants to break away from Georgia. This state also borders Russia. So, Russia decided to try and help South Ossetia break away. I don't think the US would ever get involved in this conflict, because it affects us in no way. But it sucks nonetheless.

georgia is an american ally and i think they're one of the countries (along with poland) that we're looking to use as a staging point for our missile defense systems.

as far as ossetia breaking free….the US had a problem with that once. a country fighting to keep unity isn't anything new.

siding with ossetia is like siding with the confederate states of america.

I haven't been keeping up with this at all. But I'm sure that the we (the US) will find a way to humiliate ourselves.

God I hope this doesn't escalate. We don't need another war.

To me, it was funny how Russia all of a sudden has become the paladin of Peoples' Self-determination and all of a sudden the USA discovered the existence of the international community.
