Everything Sucks on this album?

This is my favorite album you're talking about. Can you please elaborate on why you think this album sucks? Because i'm just getting the impression that you have no idea what you're talking about. The band's personality really shows through in songs like "Sell Out", "S.R.", and "Trendy"; and some of their most popular songs are on this album ("She Has a Girlfriend Now", "Sell Out", and "Beer"). So please tell me how you can be a fan but you don't like this album.

The drum sound is shit, there's too much filler, and the songwriting is lopsided.

My favorite RBF albums are between Cheer Up and White Trash, both of which are superior in production, songwriting, and general good music.

'SR' is one of their worst songs (and yet most overrated), 'She Has A Girlfriend Now' is pure novelty that wore off 10 years ago, 'Nothin' is generic punk at it's worst, 'Alternative Baby' is the most generic thing Aaron Barrett has ever put to tape, 'Say Ten' is kind of just there (It gets lost in the mix) because the tracklist feels thrown together, and the production lacks any sort of grit but it's not 'big' enough to overlap that shortcoming.

On the positive side, I like pretty much every other song, but as an album, I don't feel it holds together well at all. In fact, I kind of hate the fact that Aaron Barrett and the gang have to play Beer, Sellout, and SHAGFN, for all the casual fans who haven't already seen the band over ten times. (Yet still scream for 'Beer' at every fucking show like it's fucking 'Freebird'…)

Was that indepth enough?

I wouldn't say SR is over rated. People don't tend to like the original version, but the band realized it's a bad song, so they decided to take it and have fun with it live.

I like Alternative Baby.

Sorry, but I don't agree with a single thing you've said. The album flows wonderfully in my opinion, and S.R. is clever and funny. There is not a single song on this album that I don't love. "Say Ten" is hilarious. So what if people see "She has a Girlfriend Now" as just "a lesbian song?" It's just supposed to be funny. You're not supposed to read to much into it. Also, "All i want is More" is n this album, and that is one of my favorite songs of all time. i say it's a great album musically and lyrically. Their other albums are fantastic as well, but this one is simply my favorite.

Yeah, the only reason I like to hear it live is because of the style change. Which highlights what a pointless song it really is, so that gives it some points.

I know, a lot of people like Alternative Baby. I'll have to chalk that one up to different tastes, because I can't honestly see how anyone can like that song so much. I've never liked it, it just doesn't work for me, I dunno.

I Disagree completely, I think this studio album really embodies RBF at it's core…… your gripe with Nothin' means you've missed the point…. to me it always seemed like "Nothin'" the most stereo-typical punk rock song ever…. all the lyrics describe what punk rock (It's tongue-in-cheek) is and that is why It's one RBF song I keep coming back to.

the reason all the new fans cheer for beer is because it's a good fucking song….. I know it's "The thing" to hate your favorite band's hit but it's a fun song that people have a good time when they listen too… and if you hate that then you don't really get what RBF is about

I don't read to much into SHAGFN, I just think the joke wore thin 10 years ago. I cringe every time I hear it now and skip tracks ASAP.

But I do agree with you that 'All I Want Is More' is one of their best songs and it is on this album in fine form. I just wish they played the outro live.

But IMO, this isn't a great album to me. It may be to you, or most on this board, but to me it doesn't have the hallmarks of a great album.

-The tracklist blows, so the flow is destroyed. Snoop Dog, Baby is not in the right place on the album. I'll Never Be should be the closer, but for some reason it's spot is robbed by a sub-standard RBF song that doesn't even have a hook. 241's placement was determined by lawndarts, clearly.

-Song quality is lopsided. There are great, good, and bad songs on this album. To me, it's not a great album if you can't listen to it front to back without skipping a song, nevermind several.

-The production sucks. Purely opinion, but I hate the 'sound' of this album. It's sonically the weakest RBF album next to 'Why Not'.

Again, I simply am not, nor have ever been truly in love with this album. To me it's simply a 3.5/5 album that was just enough to get me to pick up White Trash (5/5) and truly discover there was more to the band than beer and lesbians. (Even if they showed that a few times on TTRO, it wasn't made clear until their next album)

I'm glad you like it, if nobody did, RBF wouldn't be around now.

Yes it's a clever song, but so is 'I Fell Asleep On My Arm' by The Aquabats and I love that song. The Aquabats mocked AND made nu-metal listenable. RBF mocked generic punk and made it… Funny? Sorry, I like quality with my comedy. RBF are better with the funny banter than the funny songs.

I don't hate 'Beer', I hate that it's always yelled for at shows. I didn't yell for 'the bands biggest song they were obviously going to play' the first time I saw them because I knew there was more to them then one song. 'Beer' is a good catchy song, but you're not a fan if that's the only song you want the band to play. That's selling them short. We all know there's more to the band then 'Beer', but if you were in a band and the only thing you heard every fucking night was 'Play Beer!'… Well, I find it insulting.

Yes, 'Alternative Baby' is generic. Name one unique thing about the song. Just one. The chorus is weak, the lyrics are simply boring, and the hornline is idiotic. Although, I have to wonder why I've never seen it played live. At least it was fun to hear a crowd chant 'I don't fucking care anymore' during 'Nothin'.

EDIT: Err, I meant RBF suck at JOKE songs, not funny/clever songs. If I didn't think they were funny, I wouldn't have bothered continuing to like them.

Well, sorry to get so defensive. I just really love this album. I think it's really great, but that's just my opinion. I disagree mostly, but i have to admit you have some solid points. So I'll bite my tongue and stop ranting.

Everyone has different opinions about the albums. I agree with a lot of what JD said but disagree with some of it.

I hope the next album has the quality of songwriting that WDTRSH and Cheer Up do.

For me, Say Ten is one of my favourite songs on the album (but I have a veggie twin so it kinda makes the song better).
I agree with JD's arguments about production, but having a gripe with people who only know the big hits from this album shouldn't be a reason to have a gripe with the album. It's kinda like changing which football team you support just because you keep noticing dicks at the matches you go to – nomatter who you support, they'll always be there because people are just dicks.

I don't think anyone here likes the album just because of the hits.

I have at least one version of alternative baby live (track one off "TSMGO"). for some reason i feel the exact opposite way about "alternative baby…. i've always enjoyed the song

Just to clarify, I don't hate Beer because it's overplayed or a hit. I just dislike hearing it live, because I've seen them play it so many times, and people still yell for it at shows despite the fact they're obviously going to play it.

I'm not denying that it's well written songs that deserved the radio play it got. Because it deserved it. But it is strange I never hear them yell for Sellout as much despite the fact it's a much bigger song.
