You'll hate me for saying this….but I'm glad. The music industry is pretty fucked right now because of those sites.

    • #5196

i couldn't agree more. i'm not bummed i have to buy all my music again, i'm bummed about the possible ramifications of downloading so much music. shit.

What worries me is it says "Cleveland Police" participated in the investigation. I used OiNK in Cleveland. Fuck if I get fined a shit ton of money for this I'm gonna be pissed cause I only downloaded like 1.5gigs. There are people on there with well over 200gigs of downloaded shit.

Disregard that last comment… who knew there was a Cleveland, England. Global Ignorance Yay!

    • #5202

yeah, it's all overseas, but still… i'm a little nervous. i'm not down for federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison.

Yeah they are probably going to investigate all the users.. the only way you'd probably end up in prison though is if you downloaded an extreme amount. I figure even if I get into shit, I'll have a (probably large) fine, but no rape. Still worried though… nothing I can do now though.

Because there definitely won't be 32 or so sites that pop up once oink is dead just like Napster, TVLinks or Demonoid.

      Poor fragile society.

    • #5225

oh yeah, there will be more, that's for sho.

With the amount of people that used that place, I'm gonna say you're pretty unlucky if you get personally investigated.

      I wouldn't worry.

Yeah, even with Napster they only went after a small percent.

I own everything I downloaded short of stuff that was never released/not available.

Plus it's not on my comp anymore. 🙂

Is owning the music a legal excuse? Because copyright laws are strict, sometimes you can't even legally loan an album out to somebodyelse.

One time I had some professional pics done, and the lady told me that if I made copies of them and handed them out to my friends, and she found out, she could and would sue me…Bahahaha! " Sue me BETCH!"

Well, you're legally allowed to make a back up of your music (i.e ripping it to MP3) so if you own the actual material I think it's fine.

Like whoever said it first, I buy pretty much all my stuff except the non-commercially availible stuff.

Any music I get online, I purchase through iTunes. Otherwise I actually have fun going to a music store and picking out my music. 🙂

^Sounds like an old punk song.

      That's sadly, still relevant. 🙁

fyi – in the future when many, many more sharing sites like this are inevitably created, you might want to use a tool like PeerGuardian to protect yourself.

All the music stores [both national and independant] around me have shut down. All I have now is Best Buy and Target, I miss being able to wander around looking for rare cds, not just whats new and on the radio.
