Oh so you guys definitely felt it more than I did. My dad was in the shower and didn't even feel it. Same with my best friend. -

MAX!MemberI heard about that earthquake. Was the original earthquake's magnitude 5.8?
When I was in 6th grade we had a 6.8 here in Seattle and one person died.

Memberthey're saying on the news now that it was a 5.4. the website where i got my info from was saying 5.8.

MemberI guess they downsized it to a 5.4 ( initally they said 5.8), but depending on the depth it occured, determines how strong the shaking will be felt above ground. With this quake, it was 7 miles below the earth's surface. Had it been 2 or 3 miles down, the shit would've really hit the fan here in So Cal., so we lucked out this time. Still scares the shit out of me though.

MemberIt was pretty rattling. I was helping my 12 year old nephew with some math when it hit. He was excited because it's the first quake he's actually felt. I was shaking a bit though! The scary part for me was how long it lasted. They said about 30 seconds. Once it gets past 10 seconds, I get really scared because you don't know when it's going to stop! :O
Then the stupid news reporters start saying how it could be a foreshock. Thanks a lot a-holes! But the CalTech chick (the one that always gets interviewed after every big quake-Kate something) said the chances of any quake being a foreshock is only 5% which decreases with time. By 24 hours, the chances are only 1%.

MemberWhen the 7.3 Landers quake hit in 1992, 3 hours later the Big Bear quake (6.4) hit, and that was some scary shit. Even though they were on seperate faults, the Big Bear quake was actually an aftershock from the Landers quake. I never really understood that but I know I'll never forget when it happened. Each time it's a different experince.
Anyways, check out the shake video. It's a trip to see how it travels. http://www.knbc.com/slideshow/news/17029384/detail.html

MemberI remember the Landers quake. I had a waterbed and I remember my dad running into my room and checking on me, and I was awake and all stoked because the motion on the waterbed was fun as hell.
I slept through the Northridge quake of '94. I woke up and my dad was on top of me and I'm like, "what the fuck dad?" and he's like, "we just had a crazy earthquake" and I didn't believe him. Then when the sun came up we went into town and saw all the destruction and I finally believed it was real hahaha.

[/quote1217391482]Thanks for caring Adam! I'm sure we'll all try not to! !lol
I got home from work and I was surprised how much stuff had gotten shaken up. Cabinet doors were open, the clock on my TV had fallen on the floor, spice containers from the spice rack were on the floor (all plastic containers, thank goodness!). I have a column thermometer that is filled with liquid that was teetering on the edge of the TV. I'm pretty far from the epicenter too. Anyway, glad there hasn't been any further major seismic activity!

MemberYeah I just felt it. It was slow and rolling… lasted for probably 15 seconds or so. But I know a bunch of people who didn't even feel it, so we're obviously very far from the epicenter.
