MemberHey I just got into a recording a bit ago. I'm still kind of new and too frightened to ask others at recording websites for help. I have my newest uploaded at: [link=http://www.myspace.com/sccfriends url]MySpace[/link]
As far as the mix goes, can anyone give me some tips as how to improve it? Open-ended question I know, but if you have anything to spill I'd appreciate it.

Memberyeah I wasn't thinking when I added another one last night. As far as the second one, I cannot do much to improve it as the individual wavs are long gone.
I was aiming the question more towards the first song that plays, which is temporarily called 'Holiday'

jrock241MemberI'm listening right now but I'll give you general tips. I'm not saying you may not know these but just incase.
Besides an intro or ska upstroke riffs there needs to be at least two tracks doing the rhythm guitar lines. One panned all the way to the left, the other all the way to the right. Even if you only have one guitarist. Same goes for hornes, although not panned completely, maybe 50-70 percent. Guitar and horn solos are one track in the center. Guitars can even be quad-tracked, one rhythm on each side and and lead or extra riffs on each side.
Bass is ALWAYS centered, even if you have only one clean ska guitar track that's panned.
The drums on Holiday are panned a little to far. Bass drum and snare always centered, hihats maybe panned a little, no more than 20 percent.
I don't know what song you were specifficaly asking about. There is four up.

Surly
MemberI'd agree too except for I personally wouldn't go over 50% panning for the horns.

jrock241MemberJD just because you didn't mix the tracks doesn't mean you didn't record. JD is a recording legend on this board.
Squadman you're right. I only suggested 70% because we had Sax and Trombone centered, and Trumpets on the left and right. It was a little strange. But it sounded the best.
